I know this is sensitive territory and possibly deserves a thread of its own but surely NI would be included if you were doing this for all of Great Britain? Politically it's in Britain, despite devolution etc and all the surrounding issues.

Yes, St. Albans is a great place (I was born there!).

I'd say there're array of good cities like Newcastle, Birmingham, Liverpool, Edinburgh. Places like the Peak District/Lake District/Northumberland, if you're that way inclined. Also more historic and quaint cities like Cambridge, Oxford, Bath, Canterbury, Stratford-Upon-Avon. There's definitely a lot to do in Britain, if tourists do the right research.

LOL. Because it's a much more vibrant and buzzing city with a hell of a lot more to do?

I have been to Leicester and don't think it's as bad as some make out, but it certainly isn't a better location to visit than London!

Well, the thread starter says that shes stayed in london for a while an wants to visit sumwhere outside of london. From what i hear in the news and that, london seems ruff and a dangerous place. However, i havent visited it recently to make my own judgement

York has very few cars, lots of lovely shops (including lots of non-chains) and a big cathedral. And park & ride, so you don't have to worry about parking.
