business and It
What would life be without technology? In this world that we live in it is impossible to be fully efficient in a business society without having grasp knowledge of information and communications technology. Information technology ever changing in our business society and I desire to be a part of this changing process. Through out years of studying Information Technology I have grown to like the subject. Although, part of the course is somewhat demanding, the further involvement in the course is what has drawn me most to the course. My utmost belief is that a combination of both courses would enlighten and engage me through out my degree course. In my years of studying information and communication technology I have used softwares like Macromedia Flash and Macromedia Dreamweaver to create websites and also the use of Microsoft Access to arrange data bases for businesses as my coursework. Both Business and Information and Communications Technology are subjects I am totally in love with and testimony to this fact is the AS Award for Information and Communications Technology I received in the recent past. I have also excelled greatly in Business Studies both in GCSE level and AS level and hope to excel further in years to come at your university. The world has had a rapid grown in global markets through automation and e-commerce and this can be linked with Information Technology and the web with the ultimate goal of being more efficient in the rapidly growing global market. All these have provided me with inspiration to be involved in a world where new technology is being developed.
On a lighter note, I work in my school as a lunch time supervisor every lunch time for the past two years. This job has taught me what commitment, hard work and time management is all about as I have managed to blend both my academics and my job together and still be prompt in submitting in work and preparing for exams and excelling in them. I thrive in situations where I have to work under pressure as it makes me alert and spurs me in doing even greater things. My further sense of responsibility comes from my post as been Sanderson's events captain for my school. This has given me the opportunity to be in control and create events for the house as well as feel as part of a team.
Other aspects of life that interests me out of school are charitable works. I have seen first hand, the misfortune of people being born into the poverty trap and the human rights violations that ordinary people like us have to face because of the misfortune of being born into one of the poorest countries and continents on earth. This has made me more aware than other teenagers of the less privileged and handicapped in every society I live and always eager to render my help and support in any way I can. This has led me to volunteer at the Little Monkey's Toddler group in Shaftesbury every week. In addition to that every Friday, I go to a neighbouring disabled children's primary school to help the teachers out with their sporting activities. Furthermore I am a member of the global student forum in which our aim is to see changes in our society by using our initiative to make the world a better place.
Sometimes I see my self at the top floor of a business institution looking down at the works of my hands and I feel a sense of achievement, fulfilment, accomplishment and triumph all at the same time. In faith, this dream would be completed through hard work and commitment inside an Information technology and business degree for the next four years. A wise man once told me that there are three types of people in this life, those that make it happen, those that watch it happen and those that ask: what happened? My aim is to be in the group of those who make it happen. I hope to be an asset to your university both academically and socially.

Is this to apply for this year and your wanting? (in which case please edit it out of the post above and go here: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=134 if you want feedback to reduce risk of plagiarism, and read the FAQ in the announcement on that page first) Or have you applied and this is the statement you applied with?
Re: Use this thread to post personal statements to be uploaded onto the Wiki!
Hi, thanks for your personal statement.
I'm guessing you're applying this year aren't you? Therefore we cannot add your PS to the library yet - we have to wait until the start of the new cycle before we can add it, so around September time
Re: Use this thread to post personal statements to be uploaded onto the Wiki!
This is the home page of the library, http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki...tement_Library look in the middle column (view personal statements) if you click 'by subject' you get a list of subjects, or 'by university' will give you a list of statements sorted by universities.
Remember the people who wrote them may not have gone to that uni - they applied to that uni, and got an offer.
PS:
I have always been brimming with questions about the how and why of the world around me. In fact, one of my biology teachers once commented in response to my constant questioning that I was an extremely curious student and a pleasure to have in class.
When in the 8th grade we began studying the three sciences independently, I developed a special affinity towards biology and chemistry. Medicine was the first thought that came to mind when I thought about a career in Biology and Chemistry but I could not foresee myself working in a clinic on a day to day basis. I was then introduced to my first Robin Cook book, ‘Fever’, the first of many to follow. It was then that I realised how dependent the medical community is on research and that there are a myriad career options that are open to a research scientist.
Being a student of the International Baccalaureate program, I got a lot of exposure to laboratory work which I thoroughly enjoyed. The International Baccalaureate encourages its students to question knowledge and test theories for themselves, an approach which suited me perfectly. The interdisciplinary approach of the program to science helped me broaden my perspective of the scope of research and crystallised my decision to study a course in molecular biochemistry. India is on the threshold of becoming a world leader in clinical research, however, the fact still remains that the leadership in innovative research still lies in the hands of scientists trained in the universities of Europe is what prompted me to apply to the your university.
What amazes me about this line of study is how all living organisms whether complex or simple ultimately are a collection of cells, entities so tiny and yet so powerful that they determine the nature of the organism. DNA is nothing more than a chemical compound but what is it that gives it the capability to determine the characteristics of an organism? How is it that cells communicate using chemistry? What molecular activity determines the genetic makeup of a species? The wide range of interrelated modules offered by your university will lay a strong foundation before I narrow down the scope of my education.
My love and appreciation of nature’s mysteries has been strengthened through numerous treks, camps and equestrian training and has found application to this field of study.
Your university’s state of the art research facilities are what attracted me to apply to your undergraduate course since the line of study and work that I plan to follow requires just that. The opportunity to meet and interact with the eminent scientists who are members of the faculty is something I really look forward to.
My tenure as Head Girl and years in boarding school have honed my organisational and communication skills and developed a sense of team spirit and responsibility which will aid my academic and personal interactions at university. Being in an international environment will contribute to the shaping of my ideas on moral issues like the ethics of cloning and stem cell research which need to be addressed by the research fraternity, of which I aspire to become a part. I realise that the program requires commitment and hard work and assure you that I will make a positive contribution to your department/it. I hope to have the opportunity to interact with other international and local students to further my interest in drama and theatre, my passion for music and my love for sports. It would be a privilege to be an active and involved member of the student community and to study at your university.

Hi,
thanks for agreeing to have your PS added to the wiki.
You say it's been looked over by the PS helpers. We are currently in the process of 'reviewing' the PSs on the wiki in a simialr fashion to how the PS helepr system works. Would you be OK with us looking through the PS Helper thread and maybe using your inital version and the comments given to you and then using the final version on the wiki?
If you could provide a link to your PS helper thread too, that would be great

“History is a guide to navigation in perilous times. History is who we are and why we are the way we are”, said David C. McCullough an American historian. This quote embodies my desire to study history, a subject I am intrigued by and for which I have a deep passion. I am fascinated by the way history shapes the manner in which we live today. Each period in history up to the present time has had a major impact on many aspects of our day-to-day lives and it is this influence that drives my ambition to understand and appreciate our past.
I have travelled to countries where major historical events have taken place, such as Red Square and the Winter Palace in Russia and Tian’anmen Square in China. In preparation for my visit to the World War 1 battlefields in France and Belgium I read extensively including ‘The Western Front’ by Richard Holmes and ‘Command and Control on the Western Front: The British Army’s Experience, 1914–1919’ by Gary Sheffield. This trip gave me a fascinating insight into the conditions endured and sacrifices made so that we can live in a free country today. I am also fascinated by military history, particularly in the field of aviation, and regularly visit the Imperial War Museum at Duxford. These trips have deepened my historical knowledge, enriched my interest and given me a desire to further broaden my understanding of history.
I have chosen to do a joint degree in history and politics at some universities because, since taking up politics at A level, I have become fascinated with this subject. I found that I quickly became immersed in finding out how our political system works, and why we have the current system. Studying politics has developed my understanding of democratic government in Britain, Europe and the US, exposing me to gripping debates on current affairs and the inequities and limitations of democracy. I am a member of the Liberal Democrat party and have begun to research my A2 level politics coursework assignment on the future of the Liberal Democrats. I take an avid interest in current affairs and read widely. Politics has provided me with the opportunity to develop my analytical, organisational and communication skills and I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to interpret and debate. Politics has many links with the study of history, and I believe that the English historian E.A. Freeman’s quote “History is past politics and politics is modern history,” is entirely apt.
I am an extremely hardworking and conscientious person in all aspects of my life. At school, I have undertaken various voluntary projects including Community Sports Leadership Award and Community Action Project. Within CSLA, I have helped to organise and run two basketball tournaments for schools throughout the county, an induction sports day for Year 7 intake pupils and the Year 7/8 badminton club. Within the CAP I assist with the running of Year 7 physical education lessons. I also undertake voluntary work within the history department and have responsibility for producing photographic records of school trips, making full use of my ICT and digital photography skills. I also participate in fundraising events for charity.
I love to travel and in addition to the counties named above, have visited many European countries, the Caribbean and the United States. I am shortly to visit Dublin again. Travelling has enabled me to experience a variety of cultures, broadened my horizons and provided me with a much better perspective on life. Sport also plays a part in my life. I enjoy football and am an avid Arsenal supporter. I also enjoy badminton, which I play regularly. I recently commenced flying lessons and it is my intention to gain my private pilot’s licence. I also enjoy reading for pleasure; I am a member of the 6th form Readers Group, and listening to all kinds of music and playing the keyboard.
I have the ability to achieve academically, a huge amount to offer and relish the challenge of such a demanding and diverse course.

Drama. Small word: big concept. Studying this subject requires ambition, creativity and aptitude- three qualities I believe I possess. The whole process inspires me: the idea, the development, and the analytical criticism. My ultimate ambition is to become a theatre producer. I acknowledge the challenges involved in pursuing a career in theatre, but I am determined and realistic.
I have enjoyed many aspects of my AS levels courses, particularly studying A Midsummer Night's Dream, as well as the practical performance of the AS Theatre Studies course, requiring creativity; organisation and patience. I have many other skills essential for a drama degree, such as communication skills, shown both orally by class discussions, and written shown through my essays- having achieved full marks (90) on two of my English AS modules (one in language, one in literature.) I am highly motivated and consider myself consistent in time-management. My drama performances prove high levels of teamwork, individual stimulation, and I enjoy working with new people and understanding different viewpoints.
My passion for drama began when I saw Les Miserables at the age of seven and realised that theatre was my vocation. From then on I have tried as much as possible to partake in all manner of theatrical and dramatic activities, including performance, running a drama club, reviews, and sound operation. I have been in many successful productions, one being Ruddigore at the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival at Buxton Opera House, in the female ensemble. This, along with the role of Feste in Twelfth Night at the Shakespeare Schools' Festival at the Lowry Theatre, Manchester, taught me valuable aspects on how a theatre and its productions are run. For example, the rigorous rehearsal, technical and operational logistics involved; the teamwork between cast and crew; and the discipline required by me, as a performer. They were amazing experiences, fuelling my passion further. Moreover, I have been in school productions of Oklahoma! in the female ensemble, and A Midsummer Night's Dream as Hermia. These allowed me to develop performance skills as well as the ability to evaluate the plays' structure.
What's more, I have participated in a promenade performance at Haigh Hall, working with the Wigan Pier Theatre Company, telling the story of Victorian Haigh Hall aristocracy. This gave me an interesting depth into period drama and theatre making's various forms. In addition, i ran a drama club in Y12 with some friends, helping younger students gain dramatical experience and confidence, as well as learning to make friends. From this I developed leadership skills.
Furthermore, my school-based responsibilities include the role of Social Secretary on the Sixth Form Committee. My duties involve organising social functions for the students to raise money. This understanding of events management and finance will prove helpful in a theatrical career. I also enjoy literature and have written articles for the school newspaper about social events and drama clubs, and do a lot of extra-curricular reading of plays and novels. I am also an active member of the school choir and local parish amatuer dramatics society, having performed Prince Charming in an enjoyable production of Cinderella.
Outside of school my interests lie in culture and performance. I have seen many theatre productions, have classes in singing and Latin and ballroom dancing- about which I am very enthusiastic. I love travelling to gain a better understanding of different cultures. My role as sales consultant at Jane Shilton, Trafford Centre, enables me to express confidence, team skills, and interpersonal skills.
Overall, I aim to give 100% of my abilities and passion to a degree in drama and theatre, and am aware of the challenges, both practical and academic vital to the course. It is something I wholeheartedly enjoy and wish to expand my theatrical experience and fulfil my potential.
