Default Wiki Development Discussion Thread/Wish List
 
This thread is kind of along the same lines of the development wish list thread for the site in general in about.

Ana and myself have been chatting and thought it would be a great idea to have a thread in here about wiki-specific things so that we can decide between us what the best things for the wiki are and what the best way to achieve something we want would be.

Hopefully we'll create a little list in here which can then be put forward to the main development thread when we have some things.

This way we can be sure to keep on top of what has and hasn't been suggested/asked for and be sure the wish list contains the best ways to achieve what we want out of the wiki.

A bit of discussion in here is very welcome, but let's try and keep things totally on topic please. I'll try to do the same

The Wiki Wish List

In no particular order for now:
  1. String Function Extension - for advanced conditional formatting in templates etc
  2. Image Map Extension - to allow images to be made in to links
  3. Customisable 'wiki tools' or drop down menu for the most used special function pages.
  4. Wiki Support Team Edits to be automatically patrolled.
  5. Have the option of 'mark as partolled' button and a'edit article' button in wiki tools (fits in with customisable links above)

While we're on discussion (), I should mention that I still can't mark half the edits as patrolled. If there's been more than one change, the "diff" link disappears and gets replaced with a "changes" link, and there's no "mark as patrolled" link on there for me. Nor is there one when I click on the article itself.

To be honest, i think i struggled to find it on a new article a few days ago. But just edits to a article i've been fine with.

Ok, well, I assure you I can't see some of them. Either way, having a 'mark as patrolled' button in the wiki tools would be helpful too, in case it goes walkies.

What would people think to having a 'back to the top of the page' link at the bottom of an article? I think it could be very useful when you have a huge article.

Then again, I could be missing some way of doing this already...

I just use the scroll button, or drag the bar at the side of the screen, or even page up button on the keyboard, which seems to work for me. I'm not sure if i would use a back to the top button.

Yeah, put it on the wish list then. I can't see anything wrong with having one. The forums have one.

Edit: in fact, the wiki has one too. You just haven't found it yet...

Yeah, but there's a difference when you're, say, typing in Word or in any text box, where Home will take you to the start of the line and Ctrl+Home will take you to the start of the document. I guess PQ's just used to that (as am I).
