Default OCR Chemistry A Practical Marks Are Wrong!

i got the second highest mark in my practical in my classs...
i got 34 out of 40.. (or so i was told)
and then when i got my results today, it says i got 34 out of 60...
has anyone else got anything like this?
it might just be my school being daft...

34/60 is a D and made it my nearly impossible for me to get an A overall
-------------------
It has become clear that many other students across the country have experienced the same problems and it seems ridiculous!
Most students have suffered from atleast a 16% drop in marks for their practical.
It has cost many students a whole grade.

You can write to OCR about this at:
general.qualifications@ocr.org.uk
Or you can call them on:
01223 553 998
Please post any responses recieved in this thread!

the 34 out of 40 would have been your total marks, whereas the 34 out of 60 would have been the uniform marks. on the other hand, if this was the case then the 34 should have been changed

hey yes im in the exact same situation as you!. i got 34/40 and my teacher told me that this was an A. we knew what we got as he marked our coursework then showed us all the grades. Then on my sheet is said i got 34 which was a c.

Its a bit confusing but i think there has been a mistake.

i know if you do coursework it often goes down due to moderation.

Are you doing the new spec? maybe lots of people got higher than the exam board expected so moderated everybodys marks down or something.

I know a load of people who have got crap practical marks aswell!
In biology i got 30/60 (D) even though my coursework was nearly full marks (36/40), meaning I must've got negative practical marks or something xD (I'm on edexcel, the practical unit consists of an essay, and then a mark for doing experiments).

My Physics practical was similar; it went from a 37/40 to a 48/60

So it's clear the UMS is out of 60 for all the sciences, but I don't think your mark should have stayed the same, it's really unlikely to be correct, enquire about it.

I cannot believe this!

This happened to me too! I was told that marks were out of 40 (15 quant+15 qual + eval)

I was told I had an A but I get my statement and apparently 38 and 40 is a C.

I ended up with a C overall, gutting.

I had a similar problem at my school. (Same syllabus). I got 39/40 RAW, got 50/60 UMS. Another girl had 40/40, and also got 50/60 UMS. Our chem department isn't happy.

That is really weird, I think my results were fine though, I got 58/60 can't remember my raw score maybe 37/40 so 39/40 should definitely have got higher than 50 unless it depends how many people in your class got high marks??

That is the only reason I can think of, but it doesn't seem fair, but at least our exams officer, and chemistry department is onto it. But it brought down my chemistry score a bit.

If that is what you got, it might be worth seeing what I can do to get it up-ed.
