Yeah i lived in Garstang and it was literally like living in a sauna! All the rooms look basic when you get in, but they look so much better when you have your stuff in!

    Thanks for starting this thread.
From what I've read, Oak House sounds pretty good. But there has been a few complaints on how noisy it is. Is it always noisy? What do you think about Oak House?

    Thanks

    Oaklands 2012.
    Hello everyone,

I'm coming this year for my first year at Manchester. I've seen that no one started a discussion on the block I will be living in, which is Oaklands, so I decided to do it.

On my offer I have OA.02.23. Is there anyone else living here? Let's see how many members of TSR are going to be living in the rooms near mine. Also, if you heard anything related to Oaklands or you want to discuss anything related to this place, you can post it here.

    Have a nice evening!

I stayed in Oak House from 2010-2011. I left University at the end of that year and I'm starting a different course in September 2012 and have chosen to go back into Oak House.

In terms of noise, I found it depends on a few factors. One is whether your flat is designated the party flat in your particular block, as in people from the other 3 come to yours naturally for pre-drinks before most events. Another is whether your room is facing the front (which mine was) of the block as it will be nosier when people return in the early hours of the morning from their nights out. The fire alarms do go off a fair few times in the week during the night.

IMO for what you get out of Oak House with the people you meet, the social scene and the cost of living, I'm happy to put up with it for another year and buy some earplugs just incase

    Re: Whitworth Park 2012
I know the official dates haven't been released yet but does anyone have any idea when the moving in date might be (judging from previous years)? It's just that I'm in America right now and I won't be back in England until the 13th, I don't want to miss out on anything important!
WP is my first choice but it hasn't been confirmed yet, I'll be studying medicine. Here's hoping I get into Whitworth!

^ usually the Thursday before freshers. At least it was last year, but most people don't turn up until the Saturday or Sunday.

Like you say the official dates haven't been released yet, but all of the stuff that the residents association has got planned will be starting on the 20th of September. But getting into halls early is a good idea as it gives you a chance to be a bit more settled, know your house mates and people around you better and (as cheesy as it sounds) find your feet a bit

The bar is going to be open and has a facebook page if you're interested http://www.facebook.com/TheGrovel it's a good place to chill and socialise if you want to get out of your flat and it's where you will be getting your keys and other important stuff from when you decide to move in.

Here is the 2012/2013 Facebook group which is used all year to organise stuff, complain, ask questions and at the start is also a useful way to find your flatmates before you arrive if you wanted to: http://www.facebook.com/groups/111327199001862/

Looking forward to seeing you all soon and I'll keep you updated with the actual events which we have got planned asap, we are working on a website which will explain it all better than I could and allow you to buy the packs online.

After I payed my deposit and confirmed my accommodation, I got an accommodation summary which says I can move in from 10am on the 13th. I would assume it would be the same for everyone (atleast at whitworth park).

Not all are that big - if you are along the corridor rather than the end rooms they are smaller - some have bigger bathrooms than others etc. I hate halls though - so over priced - kitchens are awful - mine was cleaner when I left than when I moved in too.

Anywhere between 13th and 16th of September. I'd suggest getting all the stuff you'll need via online shopping and having it sent to your parents house, so it's there when you go!

I guess i dont mind noise but a fire alarm couple nights a week doesnt sound great lol. Is there a library near-by? Also, what's it like sharing a bathroom with strangers at first.

    Thanks for your previous reply

Re: Hulme Hall and Burkhardt House Manchester Freshers 2012!
There are quite a few second and third year students staying in halls, as well as older newcomers, so don't worry about it! I think there were only 2 or 3 under 18s last year

Re: Hulme Hall and Burkhardt House Manchester Freshers 2012!
    Hi!

I just can't wait to go to Manchester! It's my first time studying abroad! Can you imagine it? Just like a dream!
I got the offer from Burkhardt House and I am really excited about the up-coming university life!
And... may I ask how's food in Hulme? Cause I am thinking about getting catered in Hulme...(don't really think I can handle the cooking problem during my first semester, for adapting myself to a brand new culture and a very different education system must be a little bit tough for me...

    Thank you.

    HI
I got an offer in WP in Leamington court.
I have some doubts regarding my offer.

Do anyone know about the hornet internet speeds and download limit in WP?
In facilities, they have shown "communal areas cleaned". what does this mean?
Is the GYM free for all residents?
Can I go out from WP residence and stay in some other private accomodation after 3 months? what are the additional charges to this?

it would be very kind of you if anyone of you know the answers to my doubt as it will help me in selecting the accomodation.
