Well anyhoo, (probably gonna regret this but...) I'm actually a first year medic at Bristol, hopefully soon to be going into my second year - provided tomorrows exam goes ok! Anyhoo, here's the part i'm gonna regret :P, if you need to know anything or whatever, give us a shout! I'll try and get back to you as soon as I can! An who knows! I might be your 'parent' next year!

hehe rightyo, well the 'parenting' scheme is just basically a way of the upper years making the first years feel more at home - in some cases it's like a guaranteed friend in one of the years above, it's just basically so if you have any problems you've got someone there to talk to who has already been there, done that and got the medics teatowel, so to speak. Parents can be conventional, ie one mum and one dad, or they can be unconventional - i've actually got 2 'dads' myself and they are a great laugh and a great help the last year! Next year i'm 'parenting' with two of my friends - so for example if you were one of my 'kids' you'd have 2 mums and a dad. Also with this parenting idea you are matched up with 2 or 3 students from your own year as 'brothers' or 'sisters'. If you're lucky you should get on well with them and your parents - if not i believe you can be 'adopted' by another 'family'. Oh and also you may get a lazy 2nd year who couldnt be bothered to put their name down to be parents as an 'uncle' or an 'aunt'.
It's all good fun, and there's no evilness about it - we won't be asking you to do your homework or tidy your rooms - we've got our own homework and rooms to worry about! We're there basically as someone to talk to in times of trouble!

If you got through that and understand everything then gold star for you! You can see what Whole Person Care does to your mind...

Haha! how did you guess? Well i don't know if you knew or not, but they've modified the exam this year after last years exam! First half is 30 MCQs, then 4/5 SAQs! All good fun!

Well currently in University Hall, it's good but i think we had a boring year this year - nobody seemed to want to socialise :frown: Previous years have been good tho, just hope your JCR is good!

Haha! The exam was biased towards CVS - not complaining tho! And the SAQs this year were 3 text-matching and 2 short notes - atrial fibrillation and differences between stable angina and acute coronary syndromes. It's so bad at the moment, all this shop talk has worked its way into everyday conversations now! Can't wait for october tho, but i've gotta get my spiel off to Alice to say why I want to do anatomy! ARGH!

Oh I did the anatomy dissection, twas good fun. I think the second year has been organised (for the most part) extremely well. You probably won't find a system taught better that with Eugene Lloyd though.

I've now officially waved goodbye to geoff clarke  (unless I fail my exams, that is!!)
i thought there was a flares in bristol? :frown: booo.

Reply 56
Reflex, as has been mentioned, is your best bet.
