Penny C!

So who else will be living at Penny C this year?

I'm in block F

------

To any past residents of Penny C:

if you have any words of wisdom then please impart them now!

As far as extra storage space goes, is there space under the bed for, say, collapsible boxes?

Also, over the holidays, is there somewhere where overseas students can store some of their more bulky items as I've read we have to move out over the holidays?

ah congrats - the best halls!!

plenty of space under the beds though not sure how high they are - best to wait til you're there to get the storage boxes...

you get a padlockable cupboard in your room that you can leave a small amount of stuff in over the hols or befriend someone in lopes main as they didn't use to have to move all their stuff out over the hols so people used to dump their stuff there until they returned.

so jealous!!

I'm pretty sure you can keep your stuff over the holidays, no? :s-smilie:

apparently you should be able to over Christmas but they nearly always rent it out over Easter so everything that doesn't fit in your lockable cupboard has to go!

"Rooms in the Catered Halls are let for 31 weeks based around the term dates. You will not be able to stay in your room during the Christmas and Easter vacations. If you become a resident of St Luke’s, Holland or Mardon Halls, you will be required to move your belongings out in the Easter vacation. For all other catered residences, you will be able to leave your belongings in your room over the vacation periods but you will not be able to occupy the room and you will need to hand in the keys to your accommodation."

That's from the website, so I think you can. I hope we can!!

yeah I read this and raised this question a while ago... somebody who lived there last year said they ended up having to move out over Easter but i hope we won't have to!

Whoops! Just looked at my application again and I actually have Block A... Guess I misread it somehow...? :s-smilie: Clever haha..

I just saw a picture of what blocks are where and now am a little worried that block A is seperate from the rest of the blocks and maybe isolated...? :frown: Anyone know if this is true :frown:

nothing to worry about there! everyone in penny c and lopes socialises - its the people on your corridor you'll see the most to begin with but then in dinner and stuff you meet other people and just run around going to everyones rooms regardless of blocks! A block is a good one anyway - every room has a balcony!!

Isn't Block A the smoking one? At least that's what I heard...

Yeah i'm pretty sure it is... eh, that doesn't bother me.
The only thing that put me off at first was that it's not connected to the rest of the blocks, but I guess those have that locking system between them anyway, so whatever.

I think in Block A you're also more likely to have a nice view - because it sticks out from the other blocks, at least some of the rooms presumably look over the lawn out the front of Lopes.

Ah so there are A FEW smoking rooms in A Block. Thats not quite as surprising. I would have been very surprised if A Block was all-smoking. Its not all bad then. I doubt it'll be a problem for any non-smokers who might have been placed there. You are only allowed to smoke in your rooms anyway, not in any communal areas.
Block A, so happy, when I saw it said Pennsylvania Court I was like wtf is that, but then I realised it's what everyone on here calls Penny C, and everyone seems to say it's brill
Meeeee! Block A!
I've just thought of something. What are the chances of me being on a same sex corridor? I can't imagine anything worse. I don't know whether it's the name 'Penny C' which makes the halls sound girly, or because I've seen more girls who have been given penny c on here and facebook (or maybe that's because girls are more organised and more likely to search for a facebook group for their halls), but I just have this scary feeling I'm going to be stuck with all girls for the next year.
