Re: The Official Stocks and Shares Thread
Considering we're recommending books i'd strongly recommend this one http://www.amazon.com/Understanding-.../dp/0071633227 . It's the one i read and it's very good.

Re: The Official Stocks and Shares Thread
Lol @ facebook share price. I knew it would happen. It's not worth $100bn with ~$3.7bn revenue. I know it was based on "potential" in markets like China, but come on! Don't overvalue something before it's actually materialised. I'm waiting for it to drop below 25 dollars before I buy any, at which point worldwide censorship will fall, and facebook shares will rise to the price of Google's. It's a fool-proof plan, right?

According to the BBC, shareholders are suing Facebook because they hid growth forecasts before its floatation.
Lol, i guess it was pretty obvious just from using facebook that it was a sort of bubble, its so overvalued.. -
Re: The Official Stocks and Shares ThreadI saw that. Ridiculous. You can't play the stock market then try to sue when things don't go your way. If Facebook and Goldman sachs can back up the floatation figures, they will get their way. This is exactly why I didn't invest immediately.(Original post by Maccees)

Re: The Official Stocks and Shares ThreadCouldn't agree more, that is pretty much what i was gonna do, apart from i don't think it will hit 25, i was thinking more like 28/29!(Original post by dominicjohnson)

Re: The Official Stocks and Shares ThreadI can see it dropping further. The reason being that their revenue model is failing. This is because more and more people are using Facebook on their mobiles and on tablet computers like the iPad. I do it all the time, and there just isn't any adverts on them. I have the iPad, and there are lots of ways to implement an adverts system into the App, but Facebook just haven't. They rely on when users are on their desktops, which cuts out a major proportion of users at any given time.(Original post by I got pooled!!!!)

Once they realise this, and fix it, revenue will go up, and so will share price. The longer it goes unfixed, the more investors will realise they're going to lose money and pull out, so the share price will fall. -
Re: The Official Stocks and Shares Thread
Has anyone else received the email from iii about the new quarterly fee they're introducing? I'm absolutely gutted by it. My strategy was to buy and hold but now that doesn't seem worthwhile having to pay £80 a year in management fees. I'm really unsure what to do. At the moment my portfolio is in the red so I'm thinking keep my fingers crossed and hope I break even before 1st July and close my account but I really can't see that happening

This is terrible news. So everyone else who uses iii how does this effect you? What are you planning to do? -

Check what III charge for you to transfer your stock to a new broker theres normally a small charge. -

Re: The Official Stocks and Shares ThreadEverything with European exposure (nearly everything) has got the risk of further Euro troubled priced in but only the risk.(Original post by Frube)
Hey guys what are we thinking about Barclay's
Staying away from RBS because the risk of Greece leaving, or do people think it is already priced in ?
Hoping to let Barclays fall a little more, opinions?
In a full blown uncontrolled exit the FTSE would go below 4,000. The other end of the scale is a commitment to austerity by the Mediterranean countries and it will be muddled through and go back up to 6,000 like last summers dip. -

I havent had an email
Hi guys,
Here's the faq webpage they've put up about it: http://www.iii.co.uk/newpricing/faq?...mail%2Eco%2Euk
From the gist of it, they're trying to encourage people to be more active traders (no ****, they get more in trading fees, greedy buggers) and apparently it's going to benefit fund holders. But us buy and hold young'uns get well and truly **** on. I think you should receive your email soon, there's a thread on moneysavingexpert about the new charge and some of the guys on there haven't received the email yet so I'm guessing they're doing it in batches or something. Have a read through and possibly shed a tear like I did (just kidding.) -
Re: The Official Stocks and Shares ThreadThese are not reasons for people to buy into these shares.(Original post by goldstander212)
Everyone, try looking at PERY & TRLG if your looking for a long term investment.
Especially pery, as i made a profit of 35% on it so far
Just got into TRLG and made 12.1%
