I picked the most compelling reason at the time a chose to do my PhD, which was in order to be an academic. I also greatly enjoyed my subject and realised that a PhD would enhance my career prospects within science. It wasn't really until I started my post-doc that I realised that academia isn't what it seems to be and that I'd be better off in industry.


So are you still studying or are you now working in industry??

In order of importance for me:

- To improve my career prospects ( either in industry or in academia )
- Because I enjoyed doing my undergraduate.
- To study abroad.

I feel that there are lots more opportunities in my field - Chemistry - in the UK than in my homecountry, Spain.


may i ask why this is a criteria (other then the mentioned above - or if you want to elaborate no problem :smile: )?
