    Gymnastics?
    Hey guys,

Just wondered if anyone here does gymnastics. I do ballet and i need to work on strength + flexibilty, so my teacher suggested gymnastics.

Does anyone here do it? I hear it's pretty difficult, and if i go for it, i'd start in a couple of months time. So what kind of preparatory exercises are good? Like...crunches, press-ups etc? And what about stretching for flexibility?

    Thanks guys, peace bruvs~!

I do gymnastics and I am a gymnastic coach and yes, simple stretches are good aswell to help improve flexibility .. However as a ballerina, you should be quite flexible already if you want to improve strength.. Try and do.. 20 press ups, 20 sit ups, 20 back lifts and 20 squats a day. Then when that starts to Get easier.. Increase the number do t whilst watching tv or listening to music.. Distracts from any discomfort !! Haha always here if you need help.xx

    Re: Gymnastics?
I was never a particularly serious gymnast, but I would suggest doing bridges, bridge rocks, and bridge+leg lifts, and also work your wrists. On your hands and knees rock in all directions, changing the direction of your hands as you do so (fingers point forwards: rock forward and back, fingers pointing towards your knees: rock forward and back, fingers point sideways: rock side to side) then rock backwards and forwards on your knuckles then on your wrists (back of your hand on the floor). In my opinion this will help you prepare for many simple tumbling moves etc, seeing as you're already strong/flexible from ballet!
Sorry if this was confusing, or includes anything you already do as part of ballet conditioning!
