just what is chatten? do you mean mcintosh hall by any chance? if yes, then I would personally say you are quite lucky as mcintosh is very central, social and amazing hall.

You would have probably gotten a shared room anyway - most first years do. And perhaps you will be pleasantly surprised since it usually is a good experience. Its also very good for socialising, as you usually get to know the people your roomate knows and viceversa. The food in mcintosh is also pretty decent from what I remember and the stuff quite pleasant. Me thinks you are quite lucky, reallly.

I shared a room in McIntosh (Chattan) last year and had a great time.
McIntosh is a really great hall as its unbelievably central, about 30 seconds from the union, very sociable and by hall food standards the food is really not too bad at all.
As for sharing a room, I wouldn't worry about it. Some people get on great with their roommates straight away and become best friends. A lot of people - myself included - just sort of co-exist in the same space as their roommate but never really heard much about it being a problem for many people.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask me any other McIntosh related questions you have.

the floors are A to E -- A being the topmost and E being the basement, so you are on the second to last floor

Hey! I started maths and physics last year too!
Which modules did you do? And are you doing 2nd or 3rd year this year?

B floor is the second floor from the top and is the only all-guys floor. I was in B32 last year which was pretty much the biggest room in the building so lucked out there.

Hey, I did first year physics and MT1002 and 1003 last year. Ditching the physics now I just doing MT2001/2002 this semester.
How about you?

I heard there were a few comparitively small rooms on B floor? Any idea whereabouts they are?

Also, i'm doing MT2001 this year but in a different semester than you I think.

Looking at my floor plan, B28, B27, B22, B21, B19, B18 & B17 are all on the small side. Of course 'small' is all relative.

I did MT1002 and MT2001 last year, as well as PH2011 and PH2012, and AS1001.

I'm doing honours modules this year (in physics). I'm accelerated entry or what-have-you. We were probably in the same MT1002 lectures every day, hehe.

If you tell me which room you're in I can go up & take some photos for you tonight, so you know what to prepare for. Half of B-floor is still being renovated though, so your room may currently be a pile of furniture dumped in the middle of the room with no carpet. Completely understand if you don't want to divulge your room number to a stranger on the Internet though!
