Default The "Where are you applying to do a PGCE?" 2010 thread.

I'm not sure where to apply to do a PGCE in 2010. I want to specialise in Secondary Music.

Just thought it would be interesting to see what everyone else is doing. So,

1. What subject are you applying for?
2. Where are you applying to?

Hello!

Well I used to be a regular on TSR back when I was doing my undergrad course, and had considered doing a PGCE straight from Uni but decided against it for various reasons. I've now had a job for 2 years which is dull and really not challenging, therefore I've decided to apply for a PGCE starting 2010.....so back on TSR after a 2 year break!

So my provisional choices, for Secondary Geography, are Newcastle, Bristol, Nottingham and...errr..haven't decided on 4th choice

Hello all,

I'm applying for a PGCE in Classics at Cambridge and King's.

It's only day one and the fussy GTTR is already exhausting me, has anyone else written their breakdown of the different aspects of their degree yet?

Not so much problems as just working out the best way to divide up the subject areas, my degree did not have clear distinctions so I'm trying to go about it myself, breaking them down into Latin, Greek Literature, Philosophy etc.

What sort of distinctions did you make if you don't mind me asking?

Not at all.

I'm doing Early Childhood Studies, so basically noted each of the modules across the three years, and grouped the necessary ones together (i.e. I did/am doing a work based learning module in year one and year three.)

It was the percentage bit that got me at first (im not a mathematician in the slightest ha!) but it only has to be roughly, so the training providers know roughly how your degree is made up.

So yeah, same as you really. Just grouped similar topics together. Good luck!

I managed to fit all my modules into the boxes. I went off the idea that 1st year was worth 10%, 2nd year was 30%, and 3rd year is 60%.

GTTR said not to list your modules but to just put "History-100%" or "History-50% English-50%" according to your degree. Sorry if that doesn't make sense!

Do you mind if I ask what degree you are doing, and how you listed yours/the percentages then?

I spoke to an advisor earlier and she told me to roughly put the most important aspects of your course down, along with how much you spent on each.

So mines goes something like:

Work Based Learning: 10%

Theories of Teaching and Learning: 15%

Early Years Curriculum: 25%

etc...

Is this right?

I am doing Journalism with Cultural Studies...so I just put Journalism: 50% and Cultural Studies: 50% as advised.

However it probably doesn't matter which way you do it; I just thought I'd be more general as I can talk about my modules in the interview.

Sure, I understand. I guess it can be done differently depending on your degree! Good luck anyway, where are you applying?
