and good luck everyone
I'm not overly familiar with Manchester Uni, but wouldn't say a degree in Psychology in entirely irrelevant. Did an aspect of your degree cover child psychology to a certain degree? If so, you could place emphasis on this in your personal statment.

I've applied for secondary History PGCE at Bristol, UWE, Sussex and Chichester in that order... bit of a random selection, but location is very important to me

ok this thread has really worried me! I am in the first week of 2 weeks of work experience in some primary schools to help me decide for sure its what i want to do, and i really want to wait till ive done them to decide, but with everyone having applied and its first come first served im really worried its going to be too late! Haven't even thought about my choices yet but need to be within commuting distance of northamptonshire
Re: The "Where are you applying to do a PGCE?" 2010 thread.
Hello!
Ive just started my application for PGCE early years! Going to work on my personal statement this week and hopefully get my application off at the beginning of next week... I hate writing these things...im not very good at it!
I was also really confused with what to do with the whole degree bit of the application... i do loads of different modules...which all relate to my main degree (sociology)... i do things like ethnic relations in britain alongside more defined sociological modules... but then ethnic relations is still all to do with sociology too... so im really unsure! I also did spanish and global environmental issues in the first year...so im wondering to maybe put those down...especially the spanish as i have a basic conversational level in it..! Any thoughts?! Also my dissertation is going to be based around education (im looking at whether parental attitudes towards education effect their childrens attitude to education!)... but maybe il mention that in the personal statement!
Im going to apply to Reading as my first choice i think... not sure where for my second... maybe UWE, Bristol..

Hehe... I personally prefer Sussex but hoping not to go to either really! The plan is Bristol (or UWE) as I can live v cheap there with relatives, but if I wind up down Brighton/ Chi way I'll be back with the parentals which would be weird after three years of uni!

I am applying for Foundation/KS1 is that the same as early years? I'd ideally like to teach Reception I have worked in a Nursery for nearly a year and love it so much!
Re: The "Where are you applying to do a PGCE?" 2010 thread.
Hey all,
I'll be applying for secondary maths (possibly maths with physics at one or two places) - only really started to research unis in detail recently, but so far it's looking to be applying to Manchester, Keele and looking at one or two London ones, the London ones may change though yet.
Started to fill in the GTTR form, but not done a great deal else - did some school experience in my former high school at the end of last term, and looking to do the SAS this year (cleverly managed to schedule my interview for it last year during exams and went in with a frazzled brain, needless to say the interview didn't go particularly well...)

Early Years is Foundation Stage and Key Stage One indeed, or, if you'd prefer Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, or, ages 3-8

Roehampton has a pretty good reputation for teaching as far as I am aware?

I am really struggling to decide on whether to do Early Years or just straight primary - part of me thinks if I do straight primary, I will have a wider breadth of knowledge, and be more employable (maybe), but part of me thinks if I wanted to go for an Early Years job, then having the Early Years would mean im more "specialised" and more likely to get the job maybe? Anyone have any suggestions on what route they think is best?

I have been having the same dilemma so I was speaking to the head teacher at the school I volunteer at and she told me an Early Years specialism allows you to be more employable in regard to Early Years and that they prefer someone with this specialism. But she then told me to think that if I do a simple primary I am more flexible in regard to long term employment as many school like to keep their staff on their toes by moving them around, and there are never as many Early Years vacancies as other years and therefore an Early Years specialism could be picked up part time to aid the general primary.
All rather confusing but I found it interesting to think about.

hey KJS1988 yep i covered child psychology in quite some depth and was also thinking that I could put in that we covered biological, cognitive and stats etc and I also did a module in child abuse so that would be relevant to child protection issues. I did english lit/lang at a level too so fingers crossed itll be okay, im still going to email them tomorrow to check!thanks for answering my question though what is it that you are planning on doing? x

Sounds very relevant, just emphasise them like crazy when you write your personal statement!
I'm applying to Exeter and Plymouth for PGCE Early Years
