Welcome to the University of Durham forum: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from the differences between colleges to the nightlife, an abundance of Rahs to the Stockton campus.
Name: Ella
Course: Combined honour in social sciences
College: I think my UCAS says St Aidan's, but I really have no idea of the difference so if someone can tell me I'll probably change my mind
Other Options: Hull, Edinburgh, LSE, Cambridge
Name: Alice
Course: Combined honours in arts (french and maths); Maths with a year abroad
(i'm applying twice, yes i am that cool )
College: Grey
Other options: Warwick, Nottingham, Exeter
Name: Rose
Course: Combined Honours in Arts (Italian, Maths and French)
College: Dunno yet.
Other Options: Not entirely decided buuttt Birmingham, possibly St Andrews, Glasgow, Lancaster and I might chuck one into Oxford for the fun of it. I realise I need to cut the list down... Lancaster will probably go.
I have emailed them to see if it's possible to do that combination within that course... Fingers crossed I can! If not then it will have been a short visit to this thread lol.
Hey just a quick question. Is anyone applying for Business Economics?
I'm thinking of applying, but have reservations so I need someone to persuade me.
Does everyone applying to Durham also have to apply to Oxbridge? (looking at above posts)

Not at all! It's just with Durham being one of the top universities in the country it's often one that Oxbridge applicants apply to, as a sort of "backup" (though in the majority of cases they'd be perfectly happy to go to Durham, like myself, should they be rejected from Oxbridge). Durham does have an "oxbridge reject" reputation for this reason, but it's by no means compulsary to apply there if you apply to Durham.
Also, good luckn with your applications guys! Exciting times are ahead . And remember, Durham has a reputation for giving late offers, so if it gets to 20th March or something and you've not heard a thing, don't worry, it's not necessarily bad news!

Nope, I haven't. Although I'm still playing with the idea...

I'm not applying to Oxbridge, in a perfect world I would but they don't do my course so I can't. I know a lot of people who are applying to Durham and not Oxford or Cambridge

Hi - sorry to hijack the thread. But you can do 2 languages and maths in combined honours (as long as it fits in the timetable but should be fine). =]
You just can't do all languages, so if you wanted to drop maths in year 2 or year 3 you would either have to persuade the modern lang department to let you in and switch course, or take up another subject as your 3rd subject
I've never heard this rumour before, but since the majority of courses at Durham are AAA anyway, it doesn't make a huge amount of difference.
There's a thread on the Durham part of the forum somewhere, but its quite old, like 2005/6.
Well we get predicted A* and the thing is I'm quite unsure about the 'jump' between AS and A2 so I'd rather just be predicted A* then actually set them as my targets thank you very much.
