Does anyone know if Durham has a Blacklist of soft A-level subjects?
I'm pretty sure only LSE and Cambridge have blacklists. :]
Not really..and I've just checked the subject list and for Archaeology they don't use the standardisation thingy. Phew!
That's probably because Archaeology offers are based on your experience in Archaeology rather than your grades- my friend got an offer of BBC from Durham!

I would suspect its probably more because they use the GCSE standardisations for when the GCSE results really need to be used to differentiate between candidates e.g. in the really competitive subjects (history for example). I can't imagine they base archaeology offers on your experience in archaeology because I doubt many applicants have any beyond books .
archaeological experience definitely does have an effect on offers. Many applicants for archaeology will have spent time on digs. My offer was BBB, and they still let me in when I missed that.
At the same time, there will be plenty who don't, so don't worry if you don't. But good luck. You've made a good choice.

Thank you
I have been on one dig this summer...I know that's not as much as some but would it be enough to affect an offer do you think? I don't mind though....their 'typical' offer of ABB/AAC is still pretty good!!!
If your PS is good enough, then I see no reason why not.
Like I said, there will be plenty of applicants who have no experience, so yours will give you a slight edge over those.
In my year experience beforehand varied from those who'd had none beyond watching the occasional episode of time team, to a girl whose father is a professor of archaeology at Manchester and has spent most of her life digging in Turkey every summer.
Good luck

I agree with you about it being used for competitive subjects, so I was surprised to see it's not used for the philosophy applicants. Not that I'm complaining xD
