Welcome to the University of Durham forum: where prospective and current students can discuss everything from the differences between colleges to the nightlife, an abundance of Rahs to the Stockton campus.
Pardon my ignorance (foreign student) but when do you apply to the different colleges?
And whats the deal behind that? Do each college teach the same course and you have to pick one college and apply to that?
you apply to the college at the same time as applying to the university - through the campus codes bit on UCAS.
the academic side of the university is completely separate from the colleges. Colleges are more or less just halls of residence. So yeah, you just chose the college you like the look of the most and apply to that one.

You apply to the colleges when you fill out your UCAS form to apply to the university.
The department is responsible for teaching the course (and for making admissions decisions), so it is the same across the university regardless of the college.
Colleges are where you live, so you select them based on the sort of accomodation/facilities/atmosphere/surroundings etc you want. You pick one college and apply to that, but if they are over-subscribed you may be given an offer from a different college instead.
Name: Helena
Course: Natural Sciences
College: Van Mildert
Options: Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Maths I think...not 100% sure though
Other choices: Bath, Cambridge, Notts (for NatSci), Warwick (for Chemistry)
My school's GCSE multiplier thing is also 0.0
YAY Mildert!
It would be lovely to have a group of TSRers there!

I would LOVE to get an offer from Durham...
By the way, can anyone who has sent their UCAS and received acknowledgement from Durham log into the AES thing? It keeps saying it can't verify my login details, and I got the email on Friday, so it's loads more than the 24 hours it says to wait in the email...?
IIRC I couldn't log onto AES for some time after getting the acknowledgement email and was just about to email them to ask them when it suddenly started working. It's not that reliable either...after results day when UCAS told me I was in AES told me a decision hadn't been made. UCAS track is the main thing - don't worry too much about AES.
Another thing - Durham took agggges for most people for offers, so be prepared to wait. I can't remember the exact date of my offer but it was something like Feb/March.
