I'm currently putting together an A-level Psychology website which will offer subscribers things such as:
1. Access to a syllabus of detailed presentations on each subject unit (AQA A) including all of the information (and more) needed to get an A-A* in each module. Also included will be "Fast-Track Presentations" for revision purposes. This will all be fully downloadable and yours to keep. This will also include 3 essay/exam submissions which will be marked and sent back with specific improvements and feedback, access to presentations offering info on personal statements and work experience.
How much would you say was a fair price for the above package? I'm talking ~£1-10.
2. The website will offer very detailed coursework reviews. Essentially you will have coursework marked and returned with very generous, substantial and specific advice in order for you to get higher grades. This deal would also include the option of having it re-assessed and re-marked after said improvements for a very small extra fee (~99p)
How much would you say was a fair price for the above service?
3. One-to-One Psychology tutoring. This includes having a Psych Tutor on your MSN contacts discussing any topics/issues/questions with you.
How much would you say was a fair price for the above? (pence per minute)
4. A Psychology@University Preparation Course. This includes sections on Hypothesis Testing, Biological and Social Psychology University taster lecture, an introduction to SPSS and a brief guide on APA formatting and referencing. This is a university-survival pack to help make the leap from A-Level to first year University level easier.
Again, what do you feel is a fair price for the above content?
Thanks! I will rep all those who reply when I can.

hmmm maybe start it up as free and do a trial of like 5 people, and ask them after a week howm uch they would have paid for the services, then go from there?

The website will include a free Sample Tuition page so you can get a feel of what is being provided before making any investments.
I've pretty much completed the website; I'm just working on the subject content atm.
Probably getting a clientel is vital as it'll be a new venture but it seems a sound idea and I'm sure if you get some positive buzz, you will recieve lots of subscriptions.

sounds like a very good idea and a useful website
1) £5 or a TSR £3.50
2) £7.50 - expensive it seems but it will be greatly useful to the student and shouldn't come cheap
3) 20p per minute
4) £5
In our higher modern studies class we had access to a website that had essays and all the course content and this would cost £20 for unlimited use for a year (we got it at a reduced price of £6 for going through the school) Not sure if this helps at all
ohhh okay well did you get feedback from those people who have sampled it, maybe start at your highest range price coz its easier to lower it to get new people rather than increase it and lose people
You may be on tricky ground with the coursework marking?
You're not meant to use outside help, right?
Everything else sounds good, I'd see what is out there similar and what prices they have.

Hmmm, wrt the second half of the options (essay submission and thereon) TSR offer this for free (essentialy). Are you guaranteeing an A/A* standard? Probably £5 otherwise you're putting yourself in above the revision guides etc.

Hmm, difficult. PErsonally I wouldn't pay anything for it, also there's a plagirism issue here...dunno, w/e you can charge tbh.

Probs the same as a land line phonecall tbh.

I would imagine a fiver, although would you not be competing with the freshe packs unis send out, anyway?
Thanks! I will rep all those who reply when I can.
1. £10
2. £3.50 initially. £1 for further reviews.
3. This will never work imo. You can't teach a subject over MSN.
4. Depends really. If its just a pack, £10. If its a day course, £20-£30 depending on what you offer etc.

Just to clarify, I agree with the MSN thing however that's not what I am intending.
It is more for very quick 10-15 min conversations regarding essays/exam q's etc. Basically somewhere to turn if a user of the website is completely stuck. I'm not really intending on it being full blown tutoring as such.

I agree with these prices. The first £5.00 because it is content that is already there. The coursework £7.50 - £10.00 because this is a very specific individual service and it is something that a student won't easily come across anywhere else. And 20p a minute is £6.00 for half an hour of your time which sounds reasonable.
1. Is this directed at adult/post college learners? I'd say it appeals more to them - I wouldn't go much more than £5-7 perhaps; there's competition out there in terms of revision guides/other websites.
2. I'd say around £5, but keeping it quite cheap for further reviews (no more than 50-75p?) - personally, I'd be more willing to pay more as the first if it were cheaper than after - it's obviously not going to be perfect first time.
3. I disagree slightly with those who said you can't teach over MSN - I had a useful contact when I was self-teaching futher maths who would spend a ten minutes or so explaining through something, or pointing me to useful sites and helping me through - different subject, I know, but if anything I'd think Maths would be harder to go through. But I'm not sure whether it would be financially beneficial? The tutor would need to be online a lot, and I wouldn't think anyone would want to pay more than 25p or so a minute?
4. Do universities send out information themselves to make the transition easier for psychology? No more than £10, I wouldn't think - perhaps as a useful reference guide.

If you price any of this highly, then one student will purchase the lecture notes and then just photocopy them and give/sell them to their friends.
In terms of the preparation for uni pack, it's basically something that's handed out freely in the first few lectures at uni. I wouldn't bother buying that if it was priced above £3.
I think you will make the most money on coursework feedback because that's something more personalized.
Thanks for the replies so far. I'll rep them as I can.
About the university prep course. I'm not sure what unis provide their freshers. When I started I received nothing about my actual course, so when we started studying we had a lot to catch up on. If anyone has received a pack similar to mine, if you could tell me a little about it, it would be great.
But yeah, prices are looking good so far. Higher than I expected.
