Re: Flu Jab - Egg allergy/Asthma
If you have a severe egg allergy than this is a contraindication for a flu vaccine. Any potential benefit of protecting you from flu is outweight by the risk of life threatening anaphylaxis. If you only have a mild allergy than you may wish to discuss it with your GP if the vaccine may be appropriate.

Re: Flu Jab - Egg allergy/AsthmaSame thing happened to my cousin. It all depends on the severity of your allergy and the state of your immune system. If you really require a flu jab then you'll most probably get it done in gp or hospital where they should have adrenaline shots on hand just in case you react badly to it. See your doc!(Original post by DebFantastic)
Hey I have an egg allergy but I am thinking about having a flu jab as i am a student nurse and I have asthma and quite a low immune system.
I was just wondering if anyone with an egg allergy has had the flu jab? -

Well its somethign that should be discussed with your doctor at the end of the day- ALSO occupational health at university, as there is this 'buzz' at the moment of nurses having a 'duty' to protect themselves whether it is swine flu or not- as an asthmatic i'd definately reccomend the jab, personally mine gets triggered by colds and flus and the times ive had attacks are the years i've not had the jab! -
Re: Flu Jab - Egg allergy/AsthmaSwine flu vaccine is developed using different technology (no eggs) so it should be suitable. It is different to your usual seasonal flu vaccine.(Original post by DebFantastic)
