Soooooo, ive taken maths at AS and got 241/300 (yes a very lucky A..though to be honest i could easily do much better!)

c1- 79/100
c2- 78/100
m1- 84/100

so overall i have more than 80% in my AS.
I am going to do A2 as well...can i still get an A*?

(in A2 im doing C3, C4 and M2)

480/600 UMS overall that includes 180/200 UMS from C3+C4

so yes you can

example;

c1 - 100
c2 - 95
m1 - 95

c3 - 90
c4 - 20
s1 - 80

= 480\600

this in an a overall right?

doesnt matter which exam is low, if you get 480 everything is A ? OR?

Read the post above yours, please ...

i dont see why they didnt just set it as 90% overall. would make much more sense

For just an A you only need to get 480 UMS out of 600 UMS. This is only for an A grade.

what is this?

180/200 ?

AS and A2 is A if i get 480 ?

To get an A* you need to get an average of 80% in all your modules and an average of 90% in C3 and C4.

Lemme break it down.

1) you can get 100 UMS for C3
2) you can get 100 UMS for C4
3) you can get 200 UMS overall for C3 and C4
4) you need to get at least 180/200 UMS to be eligible for the bloody damn annoying A*
5) you will also take four other papers
6) in each of them you can get 100 UMS
7) therefore in A-level Maths you can get 600 UMS
8) you need to get at least 480/600 UMS to be eligible for the bloody damn annoying A*

No. To get an A* in Maths you need to get 80% average overall and 90% in C3 and C4. To get an A* in other non-maths subjects you need to get 80% average in all modules and 90% average in the A2 modules. Please read the official guidelines for more information: http://www.qcda.gov.uk/4076.aspx

For Maths it's not an average of the A2 modules, it's an average of 90% in C3 and C4 while also getting 80% UMS average overall. Please read the official guidelines for more information: http://www.qcda.gov.uk/4076.aspx and also the TSR guide too: http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/wiki/A-star_grades_at_A-level

what is the difference between A and A* ?

how will they show it in my final certificate if i get;

c1 86
c2 91
m1 86
c3 80
c4 60
s1 80

= 483/600

my first exam was in june 2008 (started in feb 2008) and i continue.

You're doing legacy modules if your first exam was in June 2008. Only the modules in Jan 2009 and June 2009 are the new modules in which you can get A*. Your last exam should be in January 2010 and the highest you can get is an A whatever marks you get (since you're doing legacy modules).
I'd actually advise resitting both C1 and C2 because after C3 and C4 you'll find them incredibly easy hence allowing you to do worse in C4 which I found really difficult :/
