    UCE Accommadation
I've been to a couple of open days and hope todo Music Technology at UCE

They let you wander around the brand new acommadation but don't let you see where I've just applied for (Cambrian Halls), I was wondering if anyone is there or has been there and could say what its like?

    Cheers

    Hello there,
I have applied to Cambrian Hall too but I haven't seen it either. I've heard that it isn't that nice and the communal areas such as kitchens are very small for the amount of people sharing. However you only have to share a bathroom with one other person and it's nicely located so I'm sure the pros outweigh the cons!

I have no idea which halls to put. None of the places are near my campus (9 - TIC). And I've read some of the threads here and they say Perry Bar isn't a nice place. So I'm all confused. I could just end up putting Cambrian Hall, cos its closest.
I probably won't get it cos i'm taking so long to decide :/

i think it all depends on what you want to get out of student life. if you want to get involved in societies and sports, or even want to go to the student events in the union bar, the accomodation at perry barr would be better for you. also the accomodation here is a better standard than cambrain halls. buses into town from perry barr to nearby tic are brilliant, and the quick buses only take 9 mins into town, where as cambrian halls is about a 25 min walk from tic and there aren't really many buses that go across town. its true that perry barr isn't the nicest of areas, but its ok and its where the majority of uce students from all years live.

Actually I have a few more questions about accomodation.

When it asks you to pick a date to get the accomodation will you actually be allowed to move in that date.. for instance the weekend before freshers week?

And what is the policy with other people staying in accomodation and such?

I dont know about the dates, sorry. At the open day the lady at Hampstead said that people aren't allowed to stay overnight in any of the halls, but she also said "what we don't know can't hurt us" so it doesn't seem like they're all that strict. I intend to have people staying over anyway!

Ah that's cool I phoned them up today and they said that you're usually planned to move in that weekend before freshers week. And the people staying around thing - they're allowed to stay till 1am.

Im about to start my final year at UCE and i stayed in Oscott Gardens in my first year. Oscott is really nice, ensuite bathroom is nice considering u dont know anyone at first! But had loads of mates who stayed in The Coppice and Hamstead flats and theyre not bad either! To be honest, all the UCE halls are nice. Hamstead arent the best halls but to be honest, its not really that important! You'll make great mates and you wont really give a crap about where u live!

oh and another question. when does your lots uni start?

as in when are you lot moving into accomodation, when are your lots freshers and when do you lot start your courses?

regarding internet connection, u get a phone in ur room that u can top up and that will provide u with internet connection too. so u just need to top up ur phone and you'll be able to get online as long as u have credit. well thats how it was 3 years ago when i stayed in halls. it might have changed now.

and about existing students, the majority of people in halls are new students but Leasowes house tends to home a lot of 2nd/3rd year students.
