Just noticed loughborough (it stands out now in anything I read on tsr )
This is why i hate Birmingham!!!!!!!!!!!!
and cant wait to get the **** out
Nah come on, cant beat the atmosphere up town on a saturday. Birmingham has many great things about it, ive been to manchester and it made me appreciate the chavs round my area. Trust me, i reckon you wont meet people as diverse as regular birmingham people. Unique.

OP here, I agree with this guy, overall I love Birmingham, the nicer area's of the city like Harborne, Bourneville etc are fantastic to live in, while the city center is great to hang out in with friends, or even just to cruise through if you enjoy busy places like I do.
Perry Barr was a nightmare come true for me, but now, living with my girlfriend in Harborne, it's fantastic and I love life again.
Nothing makes me happier than going to the village corner shop to pick up some bread, greeting the runners as they pass by, listening to my music on my chunky headphones without fear of getting mugged for them, and just enjoying the peacefulness here in Harborne.
And if i get bored of that, I hit the town with my lady friend, chill out in waterstones with a book and a hot chocolate, or go to grab some all you can eat sushi from the sushi place in the mailbox

Life is sweet now, I'd say i deserve some peace.
I gotta say, your life when not being plagued by the kids, yeah mainly kids, of perry barr sounds quite tranquil and serene. Wish i could walk around with my headphones around here, get punched up instantly.

What hall are you in?
Haha, when I say "I'm going to Loughborough" what I actually mean to say is "I hope I get into Loughborough for 2010 entry" But I just found out they changed grade boundries from AAB to AAA .
Which parts of Perry Barr did you find the worst? or was it the same all over?
I was in Perry Barr yesterday, and apart from the typical (and expected Eid hype) it didn't seem too bad. I was more on Walsall Road (into the Shopping Centre) and then out towards the M5.

It's basically the same all over, up north towards Great Barr isn't so bad, but that's like saying eating the top half of a piece of **** tastes better than eating the bottom half.
Also, an update with my story, We're moving into our nice new house today! Me and my girlfriend can finally get our life back on track

I guess that's true. I didn't spend much time up there, so I wasn't quite sure if there were 'no-go' zones. I'll be sure to drive the other way in next time - to see that side too.
Needless to say, I'm glad things are working out for you, and I hope you'll be able to continue/finish your studies in peace!
damn man this is crazy. i just moved here yesterday and the area is an absolute ********. i moved into some crappy road into a crappy house, called maidstone road its rundown to the ground. im thinking of moving into oscott road, to a house, anyone know that part? it looks like the council and the government do not care for perry barr, its run down and lets face is, dull. if anyone tries to mess with me here i swear down i will teach them a lesson, but i dont want to be in that position. anyone have any ideas where a good place to live is, that is close to bcu university, in a quiet road with not many people. the place is discgusting, and looks atrocious. im starting to understand what the OP is talking about.

The problem is that most people insist on being within walking distance of campus. There are many lovely affordable places just one bus ride away eg. Erdington, stockland green, gravelly hill, stetchford, (Bus 11). Some places are also on the trainline.
SO if you want a nice place, consider travel. It's not so hard. I'm a brummie but you will never catch me living in perry bar! No way! I would only live there if I was in halls of residence.
Edgbaston/Sutton coldfield iare pretty nice too, I'm looking to find myself a flat there as soon as my current lease runs out.

That's exactly what I decided on, now that I live in harborne, I have to walk for 30 minutes to the train station, get a train for 5 minutes to new street, and then walk for another 10 to get to university (BIAD). It's quite the trek, but I love it, as I can listen to my music in peace and without fear. My trips to and from university are now the highlight of the day.
Also I'd just like to update you all and say that I've been living in this new house with my girlfriend for 2 days now, and it's perfect. We went to the high street today and got some quick lunch and sat out on the bench, and my girlfriend said she had never seen me so happy. And she's right, I haven't felt this much at home since, well, I left home.
On the way back, we spotted a group of dodgy looking fellas at a bus stop, and I said to my girlfriend "looks like the types you'd find in Perry Barr", surely enough, only moments after I said that, the 11c outer circle bus to Perry Barr pulled up and they all clambered on board. It was both hilarious and eerie.
It reminded me of a game I used to play on the train; when getting the train from new street to perry barr, I would scan the carriage and pick out the people most likely to get off at my stop. I got it right 95% of the time. I was so accurate that when I played the game with my girlfriend on the train, she thought i had some psychic power. the secret? pick out the ones that look the dodgiest.
I'm about to start at BCU, living in own house about 8 miles north of Perry Barr -unfortuately no direct public link, so will have to drive, or change buses - might even haqve a spare room coming up! But I know PB very well, as lived North B'ham for most of my life and currently drive thro PB very regularly and yep apart from the BCU campus and One Stop in the day = pref weekend , I admit would not really want to walk alone around Perry Barr and the parts of the adjcent Witton ( guess thats the Tesco ?) apart from a match day, or Aston ie Trinity road ( not Aston Uni - thats really B'ham city centre ) , or lozells .- . Its a shame as some local businesses have worked hard, I meet a nice chap who recently opened a juice bar up the road, but the student accomadtion by it is now all boarded up.
For those living in Halls , if any concerns just stay on campus or use buses into town.
If private - but want to be local- try around the Aldridge road- basically between BCU and Pavillions Sports ground , as thats residential . Or if travelling in and want a quiet life Sutton Coldfield ( bus direct rioute)
Obviously not all roads in PB are bad - but you do get some gang culture
