Heres how i do it for free
Egham -> Clapham Junc ( thats most trains that go towards london from egham)
Clapham Junc -> Kesington Olympia (overground plat 1)

No barriers so free
ive never been ticket checked ever lol

then its like a 15/20min walk to south ken or high street ken tube station (circle/district)

Yeah, there is a train to London Waterloo, which takes about an hour. You could also get a train to Richmond, which takes about 20-25 minutes and then get the tube to wherever you want to go. There are also two trains that go to Clapham Junction; one which takes around 45 minutes and the other takes 30 minutes. A return ticket to Clapham Junction costs around £9 (without the student discount).
I only know this because I asked a lot of questions at Egham station on Wednesday when I was going home.

It's in Surrey actually and not overly near Reading.

£11.80 for a return train fare and for access to the underground is damn good!

See I'm a bit confused about this. Isn't the train to Waterloo the same train to both Richmond and Clapham Junction? Just earlier stops?
According to this anyway, unless I'm misreading it somehow.

Thing is I wanted to go to Ladbroke Grove from Egham and I thought the easiest would be to get the train to Waterloo, change to Paddington and then 2 stops from there to Ladbroke Grove. But the London transport website seems to suggest to me to get off at Richmond instead, with no option to go all the way to Waterloo.

What do you mean exactly by access to the underground?

Oh yeah, it is, but I just meant as in you can get off at Richmond/Clapham Junction station.

I'm assuming he means getting a travel card, which lets you use the national rail, as well as the tube lines.

Is there any convenience to this? With regard to travelling to somewhere else to London. Sorry, still a novice

Well, getting a train to Clapham Junction is convenient, because you can get a train to London Victoria, which is only 3-4 mins away, and then get the underground to where you want to go in London.

How much and useful is this?

edit: is it this: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tickets/faresa...kets/2913.aspx ?

Does that even include Egham or can I pretend I'm getting off at Feltham

I'm not too sure, tbh. I remember a lady asking for an all day travelcard last time I was at the station. That may be it?
Ask at the station?
The good thing about getting a travelcard is that you can use it on all public transport, so its cheaper in the long run!

Thanks to whoever repped me, btw. I'm assuming it was you?

If you buy a travelcard at the Egham station, it'll include unlimited train travel between Egham and zone 6 and all stops inbetween as well as unlimited travel on public transport within zones 1 to 6.

Getting off at Richmond puts you on the District line - I'm guessing it suggested you change at Hammersmith? Might be quicker? It's certainly a more direct route by the looks of it.

And how much would that be as I'm confused by the link I posted before, whether I can use it on the Southern and South West Trains or not.

I'm thinking now to get the train to Clapham Junction then from there to Shepherd's bush. That way I can avoid zone 1, and if the travelcard can be used on those trains then I'd save a large sum of money.

if you get the train to Clapham Junction and then Kensington Olympia you won't need a ticket because aren't any barriers, and it's really close to Shepherd's Bush. Travel for free!

I'm extremely tempted to do this but how often will I see an inspector.
