Yes, that's correct. If you have a railcard, you pay £7.80 and you get a day pass, which means that you can travel to London Waterloo, and back as well as be able to use the underground services for that period.

they'll fine you £20. a travelcard is £7.80. there's not an inspector every third train (I haven't been checked once this term and I've been on the line 5-10 times) so I reckon it's worth it. Depends if you're going to travel around London much though, if you are then it's worth buying a travelcard at Egham cos you'd spend enough on Oyster that the peace of mind a ticket gives you is only a couple of pounds.

It's a zone 1-6 travelcard with extension to Egham, so won't be listed on any website. As been mentioned before it's 11.80. It'll cover you for travel on Southern and SWT if they're within zone 6 or between Egham and Feltham (nearest zone 6 station).

The only travelcard you can buy from Egham (I think?) covers all 6 zones. So you'll be paying for zone 1 whether you want to or not. It should be cheaper to get a direct ticket.

But even a direct ticket is not that much cheaper. I can't remember the price right now but will check later and get back to you all.

Thanks for your replies everyone, really appreciate it.

I got the zone 2-6 Student month travelpass for ~£80, a lot cheaper than zone 1-6 and egham is two stops out of zone 6 anyway so I recommend this for anyone else in a similar situation.

There are no Southern trains on the Egham line, or indeed Southern Trains going into Waterloo. It's South West Trains only.

Then you're off the hook

I thought you meant I can't use the Travel Card on the South West Trains.

An all day travelcard costs £20 during peak times!
Cos of the price I didn't get to go to the Old Bailey, cos my friend didn't want to pay that much.

I don't blame them. £20 is a lot for the day but having said that you do get to use all the bus and underground services and even during peak times that seems like a bargain!

When is 'peak time' ?

Haha, yeah.
Also, we had to be at the Old Bailey before 10am, so we were at the station at 8.30am.

Tbh, getting into London in rush hour from anywhere in the UK is expensive, it's not just an Egham/London thing.

The expensive bit is actually the travelcard so sometimes it works out cheaper to buy a single to Waterloo & depending on where you're going walk or just pay the one off bus fare. Then get the cheaper single fare back.

that sucks. But, you don't have to be there by 10 to get into the courts, though if you really have to go by 10 you could just walk it. half an hour maybe from waterloo, or bus 10-15 minutes.
