Economics and Politics degree - is it worth it?

I am thinking of applying to the University of Exeter to read Economics and Politics.

I'm very much interested in Economics and probably even more interested in politics. I enjoy reading from Socialist economics to Austrian economics. Similary with political theory. I have read about all kinds of ideologies and I like to think that I am quite learned in most of them. I am worried about two things though:

Is it less respectable than other economics/politics degrees?

I am fairly good at writing essays (although English is not my mother tongue, I always get straight As in English language without much effort - I like it and I read books in it, I watch English movies, etc etc). Still, I gather that writing a 4000 word essay about the political economy of the world trading system is not the same as writing an obscure statement about Mein Kampf in a website that nobody reads!! (or a failed blog in my situation).

I'd like to work in a bank or just teach! So I'll definitely need a good masters/doctorate (meaning at least a 2:1 in my first degree). So you see graduating with less than a 2:1 is not an option for me!!! what if I fail...

God I hate posts like this but I need a little help from someone who knows the degree and the workload..

Exeter's a really good uni, and E+P is a degree comprising of two highly rated subjects. What's the problem?

Politics entails everything: history, finance, economics, law, geography, international relations, classics, it goes on. Combining it with another demanding subject such as solid economics could only equate to a win. And Exeter is a very well-respected university too. It would be essay heavy, but it would also indicate that you can structure an argument, analyse, write coherently and have a wide breadth of world knowledge. Go for it.
