Default Work Experience Within The Media

Hey guys,
Just wondering of any interesting places for work experience within the media sector. I've looked for magazine and bbc but alot are over 18 only and I'm still only 17.
Any ideas?

Try your local newspapers, radio stations, TV stations if there are any near you, hospital radio stations, go for your school/college's magazine/newspaper if they have one, if not think about setting one up...
It's better to go for local things instead of going straight for the BBC studios, for example. By all means go for the big shots but keep in mind that they're much more likely to reject you! Best of luck, and don't give up no matter how many times you get knocked back

Stay local for now and remember the key word: persistance.

start at the bottom, the VERY bottom. hospital radio, local papers, or just do stuff off your own back which arguably will look better on CV's, is better experience and will be good to show your passion for the subject later on in life

Not sure if you are looking for paid one. this one is unpaid but you can certainly build your portfolio.

It might also be valuable to look into online journalism. Online publications look for journalists (young, old, it depends on the publication usually) and online experience is a good, additional thing to gain if you're looking to work in the media (which the internet is becoming increasingly important to).

Try local papers, radio stations, any free papers/magazines in your area, hospital radio. Also, www.do-it.org.uk sometimes have charities who want help with newsletters etc, which would be something at least.

You're aiming too high for your age. Local newspaper or hyperlocal site would be good experience. Online experience not to be sniffed at nowadays. Also, set up a blog.

ring up. 17 year olds do get work experience at big companies like the bbc, but you gotta constantly ring different people and persuade them to take you on.

If your not gonna be persistent and committed, you may as well not bother.

You can start yourself first in making your own blog to cultivate experience on journalism. It's more of focus and one step at a time.
