Default AS Level Edexcel C1 maths: Find topic easyish but can't do harder question-problem?

Our school uses this book:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/AS-Core-Math...f=pd_rhf_p_t_3

And I am finding the questions at the end of each excercise very difficult.

I am able to do most of the questions in the exercise apart from the last few because I find them very challenging.

So, I wanted to ask, are those questions there for those people who want to challenge themselves further or will questions of that difficulty appear in the exam or will the exam mainly be on the type of questions at the start and middle of each exercise?

I got an A* at GCSE Edexcel Maths

I was wondering whether it was highly possible to get a good grade A in module C1 without being able to attempt the very hard questions right at the end of each exercise in this textbook?

E.g. surds, I can do the majority of the questions fine apart from the last set which I find really hard. What sort of difficulty would you say the questions in exam papers are? as difficult as those questions?

Would really love responses from people who have taken the AS level Edexcel C1 exam in the past/done practice papers (can be new or old spec since both are the same for C1) and have used this textbook before?

Thank you very much

Try doing lots of past paers, + marking them yourself, thats the key to getting an A in any of the modules imo. Because all the past papers follow a stucture containing similar questions, so when you mark them and see your errors, next time a similar question appears then you shouldn't make the same mistake again.

On the book questions i should not worry, like i said past papers are better. The book questions, i don't think are a fair reflection of what questions appear in the past papers, eg some questions in PP are a lot easier than others. Also remmeber you only need 80% to get an A, and that might change depending on how hard the exam paper is, because it varies from year to year. Like the C2 in the summer, you only needed ~70% for an A. so work hard, + revise + lots of past papers =

I used this textbook last year. Can you give any examples of the sort of questions you find challenging? To be honest a lot of the questions at the end of the exercises are the ones which differentiate the people who really understand the topic and those who don't, so I would try and work on them. However, like the person above said, the questions in the exercise book don't always reflect the questions on the exam, and I also agree that they key to success is doing past papers.
