exactly what it says on the tin, cannot find any information on accommodation after 1st year and am wondering what happens?

Yes, but not in the same way as it does for 1st years. Official information is available here.

Accommodation Services is also a fairly large landlord in Edinburgh, you can browse their properties here (although now is not really a flat-hunting time and it's probably not going to bring up many results). With these you are expected to already be in a group and it's pretty much the same as renting from any private landlord.

There is also Blackfriars Street, the primary function of which is to offer self-catered single rooms for individuals without the need for individuals to find flatmates before hand, without renting a full one person flat, and only renting for the mid-September to May period rather than for a full 12 months. Although this option is barely advertised and the building is inhabited mostly by freshers.

There is no way of continuing to live in the first year style accommodation or in any catered accommodation after first year.

Not quite true - you can apply to be a Resident's Assistant - you live in First Year accomodation, with heavily subsidized rent. You do have to work for it, though.
