Well we started applying for placements towards the end of the second term and started having interviews etc around late May/June time, although it was later for some people. It's awkward because you do your complete first year in year one (makes sense) but then for the first term of year two you're on placement while the others are starting level 2 modules in their second year. You'll start level 2 modules in the second term of year two, you'll only complete 3 out of the 6 as you can't cram all 6 into one term. So you'll continue with the other three level 2 modules in year 3 for the first term (the stage I'm at now), then go on placement for the second year and then finally return for your final year.
That probably seemed very confusing.
They've gotten rid of the thin sandwich programme for law now, if you want to do a placement course for law you'll do the thick sandwich (one full year placement instead of two 6 month placements like the thin).
I thought they'd change all course to thick sandwich, but obviously not for your course.
