Applying for LLM/International Relations

Hi everyone, I'm new to TSR.

I am applying for a human rights based LLM and a master in international relations at the following Unis:

LSE
UCL
KCL
SOAS

I graduated last year with a middling 2.1 (64%-65%) from Brunel University.
I have been working for a solicitors firm which speacialises in Human Rights since June 2005. I have been workin there full-time since July 2008 and was partially involved in two cases that have reached the House of Lords.

I was the debating officer and Brunel Law Society committee member in my final year at uni. I took part in the John Smith Memorial Mace debating competition (the largest inter-university debating competition in the UK) in my second year at uni. Also during my A-levels I took part in the Model United Nations and completed the Law Society's Global Graduates scheme.

What I want to know is:

1. What are the most important points I need to raise in my personal statement?

2. Is a CV necessary?

3. What are my chances of getting onto at least one course?

4. Should I get two academic references or one academic and one from work (the law firm belongs to my brother)?
