Assignment of Psychology grades?!

I am taking my A2 Psych exam tomorrow on Health and then Crime.. but am having doubts that I will do so well for this years exam, well because I got a U for the Crime paper in January! :mad:

But my question is.. how do I figure out my overall grade for A2 roughly? I got an A for AS Levels but just want to know if worse comes to worse and I get a U for this years exams... what you my overall grade be roughly? What is a grade A and U? lol

if anyone could help.. I would be eternally greatful!

AQA A Psychology Unit 4, 5 mark calculation

A2 made of 3 units each weighted differently
Unit 4 Unit 5 Unit 6 = A2
Rough guide to working out what marks are needed

As = 235 ums points
Course Work = 59/60 * 90 = 88 ums points
323 ums points
To get an A over all A = 480 ums points out of 600
480-323=156 ums point to get
Unit 4 is weighted out of 90 ums
Unit 5 is weighted out of 120 ums
156/(90+120)=0.745
This works out the ratio of ums point needed
Unit 4 90*0.745= 68 ums points needed of this paper
Unit 5 120*0.745= 90 ums points needed of this paper
Therefore the RAW marks can be calculated
(this bit is trial an error)
Unit 4 = 55/76*90 = 69 raw marks
This equates to 55/3 = 19 marks of each essay inc SPAG marks
Raw marks Grade boundaries 18 out of 24 A therefore 60 raw mks
16 out of 24 B 14 out of 24 C (NB these change year upon year so dont qoute me on them)
Unit 5 = 75/95*120 = 90 raw marks
This equates to 90/3 = 25 marks of each essay inc SPAG marks
Tall order !!! (Personally I thinks it’s a B this year)
But Basically get as may marks as Possible!!

UMS points- average weighted points awarded by examining body (or something like that total marks awarded to a caudate for an exam sat)
RAW marks – Actual marks gained on the paper
SPAG- Spelling & grammar marks

It is all worked out by adding up your UMS score (the number that will be above 240 for you at AS)
If you get an A at AS you are garenteed an E at A2.

If you know how you did on your coursework...providing you got over 60 ums you will have at least a D.
(BTW 54ish /60 on the coursework is roughly 80ish ums. I don't know if you would have been given grades or scores for it though)

um so if i get a U grade for my A2 exam plus the A grade for my AS exam (previously)... i have what mark exactly? lol

I want to get a C overall because i need it to get into uni! So what kinda grade do i have to aim for my A2 level?

Right what score did you get for AS. The grade is A but what was the number? It will be between 240 and 300. Should be on your provisional exam results.

I think you will need a total of 360 ums marks to get a C.
Now if you got the lowest possible A you will need 120 ums marks to get the lowest possible C.
I know on AQA mod 5 is worth 120 ums. and mod4 is worth 90. Plus coursework which is also 90.

Basically the most you will need to get is 120 ums. Although this does not take into consideration any coursework you have done.

To get an A with OCR (if you're doing health and crime) then you need 480 out of 500.

Hmmm.. psychology... as:

199/300 ( but am retaking coursework which SHOOD bring me higher..

UNIT 4 - 96/100

So how much do i need?

ummm 295 points so far.... and need.... umm 480 so umm... need.... ALOT ... 185?

OMG that is LOADS... how many points are available in unit 5 and 6?

Charlotte, I'm not sure what syllabus you do but for mine (AQA A) Unit 5 is worth 120 and Unit 6 worth 90. I don't think you are doing my syllabus though, as you say you got 96/100 and Unit 4 is only worth 90 in AQA A :smile:
