Unis asking for ABB-BBB for history! and edinburgh uni

Hi all

firstly sorry if there is something wrong in this post, im new to TSR.

I was wondering what unis i should be looking at between ABB-BBB; in my mind the unis i already have are: UEA, lancaster, leicester, loughborough, kent. Where else should i think about applying. so far i have looked at kent and leicester on open days, the latter of which i didnt particularly like.

Also, im wondering about history at edinburgh. It says "If you meet one or more of our selection criteria in addition to achieving the minimum entry requirements (which is BBB), you may be offered a place". It then goes on to say that its a popular course and the typical entry requirement is AAA.

AAA is for second year entry, and Scottish unis are normally 4 years instead of 3. Have a look on UCAS to see what unis have entry requirements of ABB-BBB

That's right - unless you meet at least one of their access criteria (first generation to go to university, local, etc) you will need to be predicted AAA to get the BBB offer.

Have moved this in to the History forum as you should find plenty of information here. Also try TSR Wiki: History Degree if you haven't already

Interesting that you have Lboro - you going for History and Politics as they don't offer a single honours course. Not an overly known History department (I think it's a new addition). Might be worth looking at Brookes, Chichester and Essex for your final choice - they all want around BBB  All respected departments and good courses.

Yes i was thinking about doing either politics or international relations with history at loughborough. Im thinking about applying there as it sounds like a fun university and highly regarded, plus i have a friend there doing history and english who is having a great time.

As strange as it sounds, the reason i havent considered oxford brookes is because of this idea in my head that your considered the lesser uni in town with oxford uni being there. I really dont know why i havent considered chichester, I have visited the marina there before and it seems very nice, is it possible if you could tell me more about it? As for essex uni, well, i know its a good uni (particulaly for politics!) but i live in essex, and colchester to me seems like the most boring place on earth.

Yeah, I know someone teaching in the Politics department actually - seemed really positive and a nice place to study. Good uni to be at if you're sporty too! I'd imagine one day, they'll create/expand to offer History on its own.

That's a fair point! It's quite a specialist BA in parts as they've got some highly specific research centres so the course might not be of interest anyway. Lots on History of Medicine and Early Modern I think.

What would you like to know? I'll pm you!

Again a very very pair point!

Another good option - the course is quite specialist too - very cultural. But obviously the benefits of being part of the collegiate are there. They want ABB for 2010 entry I believe
