Speeding 'Notice of Intended Prosecution'?

I had a letter through the post reading 'In accordance with Section 1 of Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988, it is intended to take proceedings against the driver of...'.

Is this a standard fine or is there something more to it? It's the words prosecution and proceedings that have worried me.

I was doing 38mph in a 30mph limit if that's any help.

No, it is standard for speeding offences; you'll probably just get a usual fine.

I suspect if they were going to take you to court, they'll still send one - to get you to identify the driver before a summons is issued - but I'm not entirely certain.
