Re: Biomedical Science at Essex Uni and the student Life
I have loved being at essex, im a 3rd year biomed, having done the plaement year. If you want a career in the NHS, you want an acrediated course with placement so you can do your portfolio, and essex uni provides you with this oppotunity. I also got my tuition fees paid for by the NHS.
Theres different things on everynight, so there should be something to siut your tastes, then the bus goes into town too, so there is more stuff there.
I've found the course very interesting, but have had to work to get my grades.

hi, just a quick question do the grades in the your first year count towards your final degree award in biomedicl science.
Re: Biomedical Science at Essex Uni and the student Life
No they don;t, you need a minimum of 40 to pass, but must pass each module and hand in each coursework, if you dont you'll fail. unless you are on the 4 year course, then you need 65% to qualify for placement ( or was for me)

2nd year is worth 40% and 3rd/final year is 60%
65% ouch, i think it was only 55% this year for us
Re: Biomedical Science at Essex Uni and the student Life
Maybe they've started being nice. Does the placement year count? as when we started it counted for 5% of our final mark, then stopped when we got to placement

In first year i think it was 3 pieces per module, second year two i think (baring mind this was 2 and 3 years ago now). First year was more pieces related to practicals, second year was a mix of practicals and essays, 3rd year is mainly essays, with one or 2 pieces per module.
Robinson can correct me on both
All labs are compulsary, if you dont attend the lab, you get no marks for the coursework, and will the fail the year. If you are ill then you have to contact the person running the lab and they will normally rearrage you slot, as often tere were 3 or more groups attending labs at different times.

i dunno i'm not doing it they just told us if we want to do it we need 55%
first year coursework is all from labs, write ups answering questions that sort of think, the key skills module is a bit different
this year we just have essays, data stuff, spf and some question, important to go to labs as well you don't go no mark

Apparently there's gonna be a med school at essex in the next 5 years, i got told last year.
i knew the VC wanted to have one at essex, though where it will all go and that is well a lot of building and space, this soc is aimed at people looking at med school as well
