The application process will differ from place to place, but typically you will bring your portfolio to the interview and the course team may either look at your work before deciding to give you an interview (you leave your portfolio with them and wait with other applicants in the college/university until they tell you, usually on the same day, that you have an interview, upon which you will discuss your work with them), or alternatively, you will go straight into an interview with your portfolio. On occasion, depending on the level (foundation, undergraduate or postgraduate), a portfolio review, not an interview, is all that's needed.

During the interview, they will likely ask you why you want to study this subject and at their particular college/university. They will also discuss the work in your portfolio, asking you to explain the creative process from beginning to end. They will ask where you seek inspiration and what (or who) your artistic influences are.

Each interview will be different, but generally the aforementioned is what's normally adhered to. Each college/university should detail, if only briefly, what the interview day will comprise of on their prospectus or the course section on their website.
