The Official Funding questions/moans/possible joy ThreadJust so we don't clog up other threads, thought we could have a funding based moans/questions/despair/rant/possibly happy? thread
I'll start - the AHRC funding or lack of is causing me sleepless nights
For something like my research area, unless I hop over into an English department somewhere, I'm severely limited to where I can apply (and with other factors like location, supervisor) to the extent that it's really 8 places with 2 being 2 of the best universities in the world.

I just don't understand the funding system really at all. Is there anywhere else to apply other than the AHRC?
The AHRC and ESRC overlap somewhat but the ESRC has 1+3 schemes or 3+ schemes where you need a suitable Master's course that is recognised by them. -

The new funding system means that I can't apply to my fave UK courses coz they have absolutely no money to offer me

Re: The Official Funding questions/moans/possible joy ThreadThe info I read on the website says you can't if the institution has any BGP funding (both Goldsmiths and Liverpool do, they just don't give it to the MMus/MA Music courses in my particular year). Hence why I can't apply to the places I want to(Original post by King_Duncan)

Exceptional graduates may think twice about studying at a university that doesn't offer funding for their course, even if these institutions might have the best specialists for their fields. -

How have I never seen that? I have been looking, honest! I kept only finding other sources of funding for overseas students. They do offer AHRC funding, but I've been trying to find other schemes and suchlike to apply for as I guess it's pretty limited ...

It is quite crappy It's just so irritating when you find the perfect course and then you can't apply...

My PhD will take forever, hence the unwillingness to do anything part time

In the beginning of October they had mentioned a new scholarship scheme (CHESS), but now they seem to have decided to do away with the European Trust and have combined their efforts. This at least gives British nationals another last ditch hope for funding. However, in practice, it would appear that there are very few full studentships on offer.(Original post by Jelkin)
