This has probably already been asked, but will we be given some notice before the new system comes in? I want to make sure I've saved all my old rep comments :o:

I'd be very surprised if there isn't notice as I'd expect the final migration to vBulleting 3.8 to require some site downtime, and the new rep system will come in at the same time.

Further to Illusionary's answer, we are also hoping that all current rep comments will be carried forward, so there should be no need to worry about saving them eslewhere

    Not needed.
Furthermore I ilke the idea that the more rep a person has, the more rep power they have.
I don't think that should be taken away.

I just think its odd that despite 30 pages of people complaining and saying how pointless it is and saying what they would like to see implemented. The response is 'yeah that'd be good but we're doing this.'

I think the problem is that everyone has their own idea and everyone comes up with different and conflicting ideas. Also many people comment with solutions that only cover part of the system, whereas and final solution we went with had to cover off everything.

So all this does lead to plenty of people giving ideas and opinions, but also, with whatever happened (even doing nothing) you're left with another group of people having said they wanted something different.

But what we do have with the new rep system is an attempt to remove the problems larger numbers of people have told us they see in the system and in doing so make it fairer for everyone on the site.

It's also encouraging to see that there people posting in here now who are seeing how the system is working on our development site (it's not finished yet, but is getting there) and saying they quite like it or are positive about it

(I'm sure now I've said that someone will come in here and say they see the rep system on the development site and don't like it. But as had been clear for a very long time, we were never going to please everyone with whatever happened with the rep system.)

On the dev site my rep hasn't updated in like a month and a few weeks. In fact, since the last time I logged in several of the reps that had been updated have dissapeared. I thought it was meant to update itself every few weeks or something....?

Aye, not everything on the development site is being regularly updated. I believe the main focus with the data migration from live is fixing little bugs in a few areas. Those areas will probably be updated when something is fixed, but not everything is being updated all the time.

Any sort of ETA at all on the rep change? This has been in the pipes for a long long time now.

That doesn't really explain why reps that were there are now gone....

But ok thanks for the information.

Ah they were on the dev site, but are now not.

If they were reps only on the dev site, then they are likely to have been over written.

If they were reps on the main TSR site, then it could be that the latest update of the data used older data (we're not necessarilly always interested in getting the most up to date data on the development site, but more concerned with ensuring that it's transfered correctly to the right places with nothing missing. The more up to date data can come later).

As for when the rep changes will happen, it will be with the update to vB3.8 - this collosal probject we've been working on from months, basically updating the whole software and even the code behind TSR. It's pretty much been a project where we're started from scratch with a basic vBulletin site and rebuilt TSR on it to make it more stable, efficent and less prone to breaking. We should be in the final stages of it now it'll all hopefully be released shortly.

You should hear plenty about it in the week or so running up to it happening

Oh ok then, that's fine. I think it may have been just on the site so it could have been over-written. No big deal.

Thanks for all the information, the dev site is certainly working a lot faster now than it was a month ago
