Into my secondary school years before we even had our dial-up internet connection at home, and even then I didnt use anything social networking or communication stuff untill much later.

Why do you believe it to be a strange opinion? I see very few advantages for a child to be using the internet at any <13 age.

Well, because the internet is a very useful tool in my eyes, for research and education, communication and fun.

I dont believe a 12 year old needs to do much research, will get any education from it or needs to spend hours sat on msn/facebook.

As for fun, I shall admit my view is probabley biased having spent my childhood climbing up trees and kayaking across lakes.. Plus i do now work in the outdoor activity industry.. But still I can think of many things id rather my children be doing then sitting at a pc playing games.

Haha I've just been reading that! How funny is the picture of him attempting to rip the book?

Not even bad parenting, its nearly impossible to keep children off FB without taking away all internet privileges or monitoring them at all times. This is by no means an easy task for a parent who work 9-5, clean and cooks.

I don't have Facebook. 15, parents work longer than 9-5... 3 computers that all belong to me without any restrictions at all and internet access.
Old.

Yeah. See: Health and Relationships forum. :p:

Haha Yeah

Just imagine if Strathclyde Police had a facebook page and didnt authorise comments before they were posted....

How many times do you think the name of a certain farmyard animal would get posted?

Really? :s-smilie:

Any mother or father who would knowingly allow their child within clicking distance of 4chan, LiveLeak, Encyclopedia Dramatica or Rotten-dot-com (without several thousand pounds set aside for intensive psychotherapy in the aftermath) should probably have all parental privileges summarily revoked.
Profesh

What you mentioned is just the tip of the iceberg. There's still stuff like BME pain olympics, 1 jar 1 guy, stuff like gore and snuff vidoes, and of course the endless hours of footage of all sorts of porn. And then there are online predatiors *shudders*.

The internat is a very dangerous place for young children.

I was pointing out the 'impossible' part :p:

Really. I work with mostly 10 - 14yr olds and honestly dont believe that any child under about 13 or 14 is mature enough to be allowed unmonitored internet access.

Yes, this definitely.
