Default Anyone here good at chemistry?

I think chemistry is a piece of cake when it comes to atoms and bondings and periodic tables. But when it comes to things like FRACTIONAL DISTILLATION - *shudders* - I get so confused. I've read it like 10 times in my CGP revision book and searched it up like 15 times online and I just don't understand.

- What is fractional distillation?
- What about the heat and boiling point of hydrocarbon and their size in fractional distillation?
- What is alkane?
- What is alkene?

Hopefully someone hear will truely motivate me and make me understand this whole petrochemical idea. THANKS AGAIN

-separation of compounds(hydrocarbons) based on their differing boiling points
-boiling points change with increasing carbons; this is why they can be separated. the distillation tower thing gets cooler as you reach the top, iirc
-alkanes are hydrocarbons with no double bonds so just c-c-c etc
-alkenes are hydrocarbons with a double bond (or more) e.g. c=c-c

(two minute from memory haha so apologies if not great)

So the longer the hydrocarbon molecules, the higher the boiling point?

For straight chain hydrocarbons, yes

It's really just because of the increasing mass leads to stronger forces between the molecules
