School ties and top buttons - how's yours worn?
Sorry, I'm having a rant 'cos I think our school is being overly strict on uniform and how it's worn.

I don't have an issue with wearing uniform because I think it looks smart and it saves having to think what to wear and so on. I just think that there should be a bit of leniency in how it's worn, especially since we have to wear it for so much of the time (I'm at boarding school b.t.w.)

I'm usually really good with wearing my tie with the top button done up like we're supposed to, but it's just a bit more comfortable when we're doing prep in the evening or in the common room at lunchtime to undo it a bit, but I nearly always get caught and told off.

Does anybody else have to wear theirs done up all the time or is it just me?

When I had to wear a uniform, they really couldn't give a toss, and, if they went through a period of having some sort of obsession with it, then a large proportion of people would simply tear the top button off of their shirt and attribute to "wear and tear"

we get told to do up top buttons all the time. I don't see a problem with it, if its too tight get a bigger shirt :p:

I spent my entire childhood hating and revolting against the thought of ever wearing a uniform - and I didnt go to a school that required it - and then as soon as I left school I went and got a job where I have to wear a uniform and wear it nicely - so ... get used to it

I used to wear my tie quite loosely with the top button unfastened but then school got all strict and introduced clip-on ties so we have to fasten the top button

We have to wear our tie properly with our top button done up, no excuses. Our whole uniform has to worn smartly and we cannot get away with any modifications to it.

None of the girls in my school have their top button done. They all wear it very loose. Some of the boys do but personally I prefer it loose. As long as you turn up with black trousers and either a tie or a school sweatshirt you're sound.

Top button always undone, no tie if I'm really tired.

Nobody has ever told me to do my top button up.

We're meant to do our top buttons. About half do, half don't - sometimes they get told off, sometimes they don't.

I don't think anyone does their top button up at my school. I usually have the top two buttons open and wear my tie loose and nobody says anything, probably because all the girls dress the same way

    I'm head girl too!!

Anyway, I haven't done up my top button since I was 5, and yes we're supposed to but I think teachers have given up telling me now!

Sounds like you have it easy rosie_cheeks

Not only did boys in our school have to have the top button done up, you weren't allowed to show any space between the tie knot and the collar, so the tie had to be done as tight as possible!

Really uncomfortable on a hot summer's day, or if your collar was too small!!

Supposed to do it up but no one does. Everyone wears their tie quite low down with a big knot and not much coming out the bottom - maybe 3/4 inches.
