Default UN staff killed in Afghanisatan attack

BBC News
CNN News

Six foreign UN employees have been killed and nine wounded in an attack in Kabul, the deadliest on the UN in Afghanistan since the Taliban's fall.

Three militants attacked a guesthouse used by the UN. They were later shot dead. Two Afghan security personnel and a civilian also died.

The Taliban said they carried out the attack, which comes 10 days before the second round of presidential elections.

France is both shocked and saddened by this attack on the UN, but it should only enhance the resilience and determination of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force to make Afghanistan a safer and more stable country.

Brazil offers her condolence to the families and friends of those who died, and hopes that those who are injured recover soon. This is somber reminder of the dangers faced by the brave men and women who're working for a more stable Afghanistan and world.

IAED is appalled by the situation. It should further highlight to the UN and the rest of the world, the risks that such men and women taken at such a time

I am deeply shocked and outraged by the cowardly attack on a guest house in central Kabul today, which killed five UN staff and injured a number of others. I condemn in the strongest possible terms the despicable and brutal killing, for which the Taleban has claimed responsibility in an apparent effort to disrupt the second round of the presidential election.

My deepest condolences go to the families and friends of the victims who were viciously killed as they sought to serve the people of Afghanistan. This indeed is a loss to all members of the UN family working together to support Afghanistan at this critical juncture. The United Nations remains committed to continue its work in the country as the Afghan people strive for a better future.

Cyprus strongly condemns this attack on UN workers and understands this raises the profile of the brave, and often unreported work these selfless people do. We hope those responsible for this crime will be brought to justice.

Malta is angered by the idiots who killed the UN staff. However we must remain calm in these troubled times, and we offer our condolences to the famalies effected.
