gollywogs were hijacked by PEOPLE LIKE YOU to play the race card, they were originally just a harmless doll for children :smug:
Interesting. My mom found a copy of the qu'ran in my bedroom and went mad. So I can understand the arguing thing.

When it's based on nothing but ethnicity and tabloid cultural stereotypes?

You are applying your own ideas of what Islam is (It means very different things to different people) and judging other people based your own conceptions.

The more and more I read on this forum, the more I believe that some Muslims secretly go to night schools and take courses in 'How to successfully accuse others of racism, so as to completely divert matters away from the nub of the subject.'
Her mum was probably a hardline christian, you can probably tell from her name

maybe if her family and friends were a bit more supportive..:s-smilie:

this, tbh; she wouldn't have felt the need to run away if her family didn't feel threatened by her interest in islam

i haven't actually read the article btw, i hope my comment is somehow applicable :p:

lol I'm not Muslim. I'm just not a bigoted fool.

Islam is a faith of 1.5 billion followers, it does not think one way about anything. There are Islamic anarchists, and there are Islamic monarchists, Islamic libertarians and Islamic socialists. Some Muslims fight for the rights of women and gays, other muslims fight the first load. To judge an entire group of people from the actions of a subset is simply prejudice.

I realise that, but it is the responsibility of Muslims themselves to present their religion in ways other than 'ooh, I fancy blowing myself up today'. Sadly, ignorant fools across the world feel that is all they are capable of thinking, doing, wanting to do.

That wouldn't be racist.

I'd personally make sure it was racist.

Most of the people I see judging their beliefs are judging the Qur'an. Which is perfectly reasonable and sensible. And yes, Islam does think one way about lots of things.
my sister's ex bf was muslim
and he actually said "i wanna turn all the non-muslims into muslims"
lol which i found quite funny cos you cant just turn someone into another religion...
he actually did brainwash my sis
and one night when we were all having dinner my sis randomly said "mum, can i covert into a muslim"
everyones jaw just droppeeddd lol and my mum said "do what u want" in a very disappointed/pissed off tone but she didnt run away

Only thing is "MUSLIM MAN PETS CAT, CAYS JESUS WAS A PRETTY COOL DDUE" is not a good headline. Muslim charities are making impacts in Africa in combatting the AIDS epidemic but no one cares about that either.

I'm sure she'll pop up in a bus one day.

I agree, they have definitely blown this out of proportion.

Campaigning against contraception helped aids a lot.

To be fair, catholics are more at fault there.

What, why?? I don't think there's a book in the word which would make my mum go mad at me. That's just bizarre.

Apart from the 5 pillars you will find very little Sufis and Wahabbists have in common. The Arabian and South Asian Islamic traditions are nearly totally different from each other, like Christianity in Britain and Christianity in the US are very different.

The Qur'an is also notoriously open to interpretation. Some verses are nigh on incomprehensible but people with political/cultural axes to grind can easily manipulate ill educated people, which are a large number of people living in the Muslim world. Classical arabic is not like arabic now, just like old english is not like english today. As a result, it's easy to get confused ideas.

The Qur'anic verses also have to be taken in their political and social context. Compared to the quality of life women had in the pre-islamic era in Arabia, the Qur'an was an amazingly liberating document.

She's a devote Catholic and still believes that I am too. So, she automatically assumed I was thinking of converting.

It is going to be pretty hard to find her if she is dressed like this:

The five pillars are hardly nothing.

And I see no reason to take the Qur'an in its political and social context, since it's meant to be a book for all time.

You're the reading type though, so she'd be used to it. :p:
