What to do for an 18th?

Ok, I'm going to be 18 in February (coldest month of the year, remember!) and I'm not sure what to do.

I want to have lots of people, but not really sure how to do it. Seeing as lots of my friends won't be 18 clubbing is out of the question. Hiring out some sort of function room seems feasible, but they're usually around £50 per head which is going to cost so much!

Thought of doing the whole party on a boat thing, but again, it'll be freezing and very expensive.

I'm also not too keen on having it at my house as it's just been redone and we've not finished decorating yet. Wouldn't want to mess up the new house! I suggested maybe some sort of BBQ or a mini gathering sort of thing at my house, which could work as I have a fairly big garden, but it'll probably be freezing.

I could always go for a meal with friends, but isn't that what loads of people do? I want it to be different and remembered.

Dress code would be smart/casual. So shirts and smartish shoes for guys and dresses for girls.

Maybe I delay it until easter when it'll be warmer? There's also the option of having it joint with someone else so that it's cheaper.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Bonfire? Outdoors and would make it less cold

If you have a large back garden, how about a marquee? That should keep you safe from rain etc. and the majority of the wind but it will probably still be quite cold. Some marquees you can hire come with heaters but these are much more expensive.

I hired out a function room at my local Football club that fitted 150 people and it cost about £200. Then you need to pay for decorations, bouncers, etc. but remember it is not always necessary to provide food. If you have the party start at 8ish then your guests will have already eaten and you can provide a few nibbly snacks instead.
I feel your pain :emo: February is such a bad month to be born in!

But 18th is a fairly big deal, birthday-wise so it might be worth it splashing out for the function room, it is after all your passage into adulthood etc etc :yep: plus I am sure they aren't £50 per head!
You think February's bad, how about January? :frown: It's even colder. I'm having the same problem, I'd love to go to a theme park but they're not open in the winter, would like to hire a function room but then I'll get gate-crashers which I don't want, or there's the meal thing. Winter birthdays are unfair :/ plus mine's almost straight after Christmas so I get all my presents at once, then nothing at all for the rest of the year. Always hated that as a child. :p:

I'm 18 in February too =). I'm hiring a function room... they're actually really cheap around here. You can hire them with a bar for £40. The one I'm planning on is £100 deposit or something like that but you get it ALL back if there's no damage.
whatever you want

do everything even

just

go crazy

Yeah, I just hired the room for one evening. Hire prices aren't as much as having someone put on your actual event, but it's more work on your part. I had to sort out all the decorations, DJ, bar staff, bouncers and food.
