Re: The Field Hockey SocietyOh you have a couple of sessions over a couple of days now then?(Original post by Atherilia)
Got tickets to go and see GB men vs the Aussies, best day ever! Also my Olympic tickets for the 4th August evening session arrive today
It's a shame I won't see PAK-ARG and KOR-GER but as I might have mentioned before, I want to make sure I can get on a train back home. Only 30 minutes but not too many trains after 10pm last time I checked.
My tickets have arrived, bit disappointed I'm in the corner mind. But still what you get for the £20 tickets. -
Re: The Field Hockey SocietyThat sounds like two brilliant matches in the making there!(Original post by AeroLB)
I have women's GBR vs NED and ARG vs AUS on 6th Aug. Couldn't've picked a better session (imo)!!

Re: The Field Hockey SocietyThere are a fair few trains headed my way after 10pm, might be 'cause I have a choice of 3 stations though(Original post by SirMasterKey)

Re: The Field Hockey Society
Watched Pakistan vs Spain. Massive lack of quality, it's saddening to see how much Pakistan have deteriorated. Couldn't string more than 5 passes together and aside from 3/4 pieces of fantastic individual skill, it was just running it into a corner and hoping it hit a foot, or Sohail Abbas' wonderful long flicks forward. Spain dominated, but I guess we defended well, and their finishing was pretty average. For all their domination they didn't really carve out many proper chances. Their goal was an awful mistake from our keeper, straight after we'd scored, very poor to concede that way and I reckon if we'd been able to keep the lead for 3/4 minutes, we would have scored three points and an upset. Some of their passing was nice, but we defended determinedly and in numbers. Their defence was pretty poor, they gave the ball away far too easily on numerous occasions and Pakistan didn't really have the guts to attack, but I guess we'll be happy with a draw. It's a very tough group to get out of but I think we looked disciplined and strong down the left hand side, if we can get stronger on our right hand side we could be a tough team to beat, even for the better teams in the world.

Re: The Field Hockey Society
I've had a growing interest for A while now, I play football now but am really interested in going to an open training or anything at my uni when I move in September, but It will be my first contact with the sport apart so I'm nervous about how I may be received.
Just wondering if anyone else only started when moving to uni, and what their experience was like? My uni will be UWE also if means anything to anyone. -

Pakistanis are all naturally good at hockey lol, i'm not sure why but whenever a Pakistani plays hockey they're always really good at it. -
Re: The Field Hockey SocietyThey were much better today. Defended well and took their penalty corner chances. Could be a good strategy against the bigger teams.(Original post by Theoneoranro)

Re: The Field Hockey Society
Saw the first four games live at the Riverbank Area (a.k.a. the 'Smurf Turf'). A dominating display by the Aussies in the first game, Spain never really turned up, they just couldn't do anything in the Aussies 25.
Netherlands-Belgium. What a game! If you can watch the highlights I would. It was excellent, shame that the subbing of off the Belgian keeper for a 'keeper with special privileges' didn't work out for them.
India got off to a fantastic start but fell short of New Zealand who pulled themselves together and finally the Great Britain match seemed such a shame that we didn't get more but the South Africans did perform well. If only we could have gotten something from the final penalty corner in the last few seconds, the arena would have erupted, but it would have been harsh on South Africa. Either way was a great day. -
Re: The Field Hockey SocietyEver so slightly jealous.(Original post by Atherilia)

Re: The Field Hockey Society
Been watching some olympic hockey aswell, some really good stuff there is.
Did anyone else watch the womens New Zealand vs South Africa game? The video umpire was well put through his paces!
And the mens Germany vs Korea game, felt a bit sorry for the koreans as their pace and workrate was outstanding, unlucky not to get a goal. -
Re: The Field Hockey Society
So, I am looking at my kit before I pack my stuff up for going back to uni and I need to replace a few things...
Can anyone reccomend a unisex/womans hockey trainer for under £45?
I got my first pair of proper hockey astros a year and a half ago, dita terminators, and there was a massive difference from football ones! I know I can get the same/updated model of shoe for about £40 delivery inclusive (my local hockey specialist doesn't stock them) but wondered if anyone had other suggestions.
Shin guards - I have had small dita basic ones for 3 years, long enough for any pair really! But £15 seems a lot for foam and plastic, any other reccomendations?
(Looking at my stuff I seem to be a dita fangirl -stick and chamois, astros, shinnies, skort and socks!)
