Default Leader debates

Kolya and I have been mooting this idea of Party Leader debates. What is the opinion of the House and what is the willingness of Party leaders to partake?

Interesting idea - what about formalised MP debates?

Well that's what it is, I think; but using leaders or senior party members because they would be seen as more representative.

Fair enough, I see how that makes sense

what if the leaders of parties involve get to put forward whoever takes part (including themselves)?

This leadership debate will just be the general election discussion thread just with only seven people answering the questions.

No no no. Unfair - sometimes there are questions that we mere mortals are better at answering than the gods that are party leaders.

No it will not. We are looking at D&D's "Rigorous Debate" sort of thing here, at least in my opinion.

Mhm, I'm aware of that. If you want to take part you could just pick one of your (four :|) group leaders or nominate someone.

Seems kinda pointless to me. If there's one thing the HoC is really not very good at, it's having sensible rational debates in which people are convinced through the power of logic and evidence.

What do you think might actually be achieved by such a "debate"?

I'm sure if its kept to just the party leaders it could work? They are all mature enough to take part surely?

I would have to, unfortunately, very much agree with this. However, I would like to see it happen, if only to give an insight into whether it would be feasible to maintain.

Have you seen how some of these leaders get involved in debates? I don't want to point fingers, but you can probably guess who I am referring to...

Personally I think this sort of debate should only happen if it were heavily moderated, and no "heckling" permitted. Pure debate and nothing more. Otherwise, I don't see the need.

Why just party leaders? If you wanted to do a debate on the forum, surely it's best to have dayne ask a series of questions, each party PMs him their responses and he posts them next to the question. I can't see any voter reading a free for all among the party leaders, as you know how tedious it is to read hosts of multiquotes going on for pages and pages.
