The interview went amazingly, he actually offered me a place at the interview.

Before the interview, they made us write this little mini essay on books, films, or gallery visits we'd been on in the last year that had influenced our work.
When we went for the interview, we each had about 12 minutes to present our portfolio and to talk about the work. He had this criteria sheet that he was marking us up against. It measures things like your communication skills, what he gauges to be your motivation and commitment for the subject and photographic abilities. There were other things but I've forgotten them I'm afraid! But the most important thing he was looking at was the quality of the portfolio.

He did answer some standard questions like favourite designers, but he specifically stated that he wasn't interested in the typical answers like Neville Brody or David Carson. He asked about other influences too. I was lucky, he was a really laid back and easy to talk to person.

Same here about CSM. I don't think I stand much of a chance especially seeing as I don't have an art foundation, but I thought it would be worth a try. You just never know!

Oh my thankyou for sharing! I've been out of education for a few years and I just got back on track with an access course. I've been really nervous about what kind of thing to expect at the interview. I really feel like my minds been put at ease from your experience  I can perhaps prepare myself a little more. My uni choices are just central to where I live as I don't want to move too far, cept for Norwich to be honest I have no idea really why I applied there.

Regarding Ravensbourne interviews, the internal applicants are currently having their interviews so everyone else should probably get replies around the middle of February or something :]

The essay's not such a big problem to me :/ but...idk. I'm not going to the interview cause I'm not from England and I have to send in my work online...so I won't get any feedback and will be nervous till the end xD damnit. xD

Really glad to find this thread

Sent off my application on about the 10th of Jan to study Graphics atttt:
Kingston (first choice, but think my chances are incredibly slim!)
Nottingham Trent
UWIC (Cardiff)
Swansea met
(and also Creative Advertising at Bucks New)

Have an interview at Swansea on Monday and at UWIC in March. This is all happening incredibly quickly, i'm panicking rather a lot!

Out of interest, what kinda stuff have people got in their portfolios? I'm totally stumped. Doing A+D foundation at the moment, but my tutors are being pretty hopeless.

Good luck to everyone with interviews coming up!!

My portfolio is a mix of "graphic deisgn" specialism briefs - reinventing the book / packaging / type and image, some letters that spell out "type" that I made in 3d. Also a person project of mine in which I made a zine/book using my own photography.

The some life drawings, both organic and measured. abstract mixed media based on shadows. Mixed media based on newspaper layout. 2 etchings, 1 monoprint. A painting. Finally some photography.

So yeah. Quite a mix. Around 25 pages. Quite a lot of photocopies of sketchbook. So 1 project will be represented on 2 pages. First being the development and the other being the photos of the final thing.

Hope that helps and is understandable.

You have to send a e-portfolio off to Kingston I believe.

Thinking I'll base my interviews on my first one on weds. If it goes well I feel they all will. One can hope.

Good luck everyone

Still sorting out my online portfolio and Brighton are asking for 10-20 images including sketchbook work, so I'm thinking of choosing 10 final pieces (a mixture of digital/traditional work) with an image of appropriate sketchbook work to go with each.

Not sure if I should just put my graphics work in or some stuff from the exploratory stage of my foundation course as well, though.
