I was expecting France to be on the overrated list. I'd at least put Paris, nice city but the people there are complete dickheads.
Underrated:
Syria: it's a wonderful country with the nicest people you could ever meet. Some may try to rip you off, but if you need help, they're the best. The culture is absolutely amazing and the landscape is breathtaking (no, it's not only sand, haha)
French Polynesia/Guadeloupe: Not very well-known at all, but it's warm, there's no clouds in the sky, the temperature is ideal, the sea is light blue and there are tons of fish that are all really pretty. The food is immense and the people there are lovely.
Finland: May be a tad expensive, but it's the perfect place if you want peaceful holidays or that you love nature. It's great to see reindeers crossing roads, tiny red wooden houses amongst the trees and having a really warm sauna before swimming in a cool lake is awesome.
Russia: Overrated about people hotness, they're like everywhere else, some are hot, some really aren't and their sense of fashion is not something that's usually associated with classy women in Europe. Other than that Moscow is really pretty, the language is amazing and people are fantastic once you get to know them.
You must be Syrian, the people who live there dont even rate it
Overrated - Thailand. Just a massive tourist trap where naive youngsters flock in the thousands to claim they've 'found themselves' (when in reality they just got completely legless on a beach under the influence of vodka and hallucinogenic Red Bull).
Underrated - China. It's not a closed society anymore, and the pace of change is absolutely staggering. It's enormous and so varied you can find anything you want there. A huge blend of history and modernity, and the people are really friendly and the food is awesome!
italy: another dump, the south is pretty much like africa and not full of amazing food and hot girls.
I'm sorry but that comment is so rude.
The fact that you stated a country is bad by comparing it to Africa is incredibly offensive. Have you ever even been to Africa? I know you may not like Italy but try to express yourself without putting down an entire culture, one that it actually pretty amazing.

I kind of know what you mean about Thailand, but if you go there simply for a huge party its freaking awesome, and then you've got Laos/Myanmar/Malaysia etc. near by if you actually want to 'find yourself'.
And I really do need to go to China sometime soon. Is it like SE Asia where everyone speaks English or not?
japan: no the women are not all school girls waiting to **** you and the men are not ninjas. if you're white they won't even talk to you.
spain: you're probably thinking of that holiday in ibiza right. the rest of the country is not beaches and clubs, it's a dump on par with third world countries.
italy: another dump, the south is pretty much like africa and not full of amazing food and hot girls.
netherlands: just buy an ounce and smoke it here don't waste your money and time.
england: butlers serving you tea? more like chavs breaking your windows.
somalia: yes anarchy and pirates are cool, for about 10 minutes.
sweden: yawn.
uae: the photos look good but it's boring as ****.
underrated:
germany: no it's not still world war 2 here.
feel free to add your own to the list.
England is underrated. A lot of people here moan about it but its my fav european country.
I agree that Spain is overrated, but mostly because of Ibiza which overshadows culture in other areas.
Italy isnt underrated and iv never heard anyone rate Holland.
Canada is probably the best and switzerland is also underrated/overlooked.
When has anyone underrated Germany kind of bias since you say you live there
I think peru and New Zealand are underrated
In my opinion the USA and Italy are overrated

Agreed on the Thailand point, it's great fun if you're just there for a laugh.
Sadly, China is not so easy to get around as a visitor - the first time I went, I was relying on guesthouse staff to write instructions on bits of paper and handing them to other people. Marginally easier in the big cities, but some places I turned up, you'd be stuffed if you only spoke English - or at least just fodder for touts.
Fortunately, last time I went was the third year of my Chinese degree, so language was less of a problem I'm not sure I could call it underrated though - very much depends where you go. Spending a year in a second tier city ended up being quite...meh. Some awesome parts though, certainly!

After last night's nomikai, I disagree. They are all badass ninjas.
Joking aside, I totally agree though, I just don't understand why people want to sell their left testicle on ebay just to live or even work here. I'm still waiting to visit Korea though, which I heard was very good.

Overrated: Thailand (went there first time and thought big deal, went there a second time and wanted to shoot myself)
Australia
Paris - only go there is you are wealthy or wanna shop or you will be treated like **** as my friends discovered
London - best for the wealthy or if you are going to live within zones 1 & 2 where the nicer areas are as the rest of it is a big vortex dump full of the dregs of society. Anytime I leave my part of central to go deeper in for an ill conceived shopping trip I come back home usually after a call to the police to report an incident
Underrated: Laos
Indonesia
Eritrea - stunning scenenry
Ethiopia - stunning scenery
Botswana safaris - why the hell do people go to Kenya and Tanzania
Madagascar - swoon
New Zealand - compared to Oz
Guyana

Another obtuse one who has obviously never been but just rates it. You need to have been somewhere to actually rate it luvvie
Oh and about the England comment if you live in a **** hole of an area as you obviously do then you will get those problems
And if you are underrating countries or even overrating them you actually have to have set foot inside the country. So not sure where you are getting your views about Somalia since it is pretty much a no go area.
And the Japanese chicks probably do not want to screw around with you because they do not find you attractive i.e. ugly That is what girls generally do

Re: overrated and underrated countries
I don't see how Spain is over-rated. I've never been to Ibiza but have been to Barcelona and Madrid, and I found these two cities as two of the most beautiful in Europe.
