How is one meant to get retail experience if all they are looking for is retail experience?
Exactly, so hard to step on the 'career ladder' if you like. Nearly all jobs are looking for retail experience, how can I get any if no one is willing to accept me? I think the only way now is to work in a charity shop for a few months for no pay to get some experience.

I know it's a pain in the ass. What's annoying is the only jobs available where I am are 37 hour a week jobs.

I would take any job offering any hours at the moment, unemployed, on a one day a week part time course. Even being nearly fully flexible people don't want to employ me!

I'll have a look on their website, but odds are it'll be much harder to get a job at in the current economic environment, with unemployment being so high.

I'm in 5 days a week it's depressing to be honest.

Have a look on next website too, they're advertising xmas temp jobs.
Jobs aen't hard to find in this climate at all - it really just depends how fussy you are. If you're not - Burger King and McDonalds are always on the lookout for staff - and hey, so it's kinda ****** to say you work there, but if it's only temporary and you need the money, why complain? I worked at McD's for a bit when I was completely skint, and thay don't pay too badly and generally, you can be really flexible about your shifts.
What was it like? I might be looking for a part-time job next year when I turn 16.
One thing that pisses me off is part time jobs that are during the days I'm at class. God it gets on my nerve. If I miss my classes (a very stupid thing) to work why even bother to study when I could just work full time?
I got rejected by McDs. Probably for not wanting to work certain days. Even though I was willing to work on all of my days off.
Searched for a year when I turned 16. Applied EVERYWHERE but no luck. Probably due to lack of exp. I accepted that I wasnt gonna get one at a big place so it looks like I'l be getting a job at a small takeaway.
Honestly, I got the first job I applied for. I turned 16 in May and have been working since. I'm now working in John Lewis. It's mainly all about how well you present yourself when handing CV's out and what you write on your CV.
Also, work in a place like Oxfam, unpaid, but, looks fantastic on your CV and it's retail experience.
best thing to do for retail experience is working volountarily in like a charity shop for a while... i know it's not paid, which is annoying but the fact that you're taking on this experience without being paid for it will bring attention to future employers and also makes your CV more interesting...
Yey, I got an email from waterstones saying that they are going to be looking into my application further At least I wasn't rejected straight away heh
I'm using my voluntary work as a local action group committee member in my applications, and work experience in the bank. Oh damn it I wish the college would hurry up with my EMA ><
Threads like these make me so glad that I got a job last year and only had to look for about 3 weeks. My plan is to stick with Greggs until I bugger off to uni, and hopefully get a transfer to another shop since there are Greggs everywhere.
Royal Mail are taking on strikebreakers . . . . a job's a job, and I believe (insider information this is ) that the agency Manpower is one of the agencies that is recruiting for RM.
