Hi, first time here. I went for the strangest of runs on friday. It was an 8 mile run from my house to Powerleague.

Should have got a lift and saved your legs for football

Don't think I've posted in here!

I run pretty much everyday for 5-10km depending on how I'm feeling. Usually on a treadmill but I do go do it outside if it isn't too bad. I've gone from not being able to run for a few minutes to being able to run 45-60 minutes with ease. Very pleased with myself!

No real aims, just trying to increase my distance every week or so. I love the feeling I get after a decent run.

No idea if it's been pushed in here yet, but when I'm outside, I use the RunKeeper app on my iPhone - it's fantastic! The web side of it is pretty awesome too:

Think I may use this thread as inspiration to push myself a little harder each time and keep it updated.

heya, lots of new people i see

Tonight i am going to do a 20-25min fast-ish run 5k minimum, then I have 2 classes- abs+back and LBT!

So will have to leave at about 5.15 and will hopefully be back at about 7.10.

But need to spend the rest of the day doing interview prep for weds, though think i will have time. Tomorrow is pretty much the same as i finish sixth form at the same time and then have spinning and might do a quick run before/after.

Going to the gym in about 20mins, despite having to walk in the rain/snow!
Going to do 25mins at 12.5km/phr (i think its that anyway as the treadmill measures distance in km.) unless its just the level?
Did it for 20mins yesterday and it was fine, so might increase to 15 every 5mins for 30-1min then back to 12.5.
Then will do 15-20mins on the bike trying to do some HIIT.
Thats probably all i will have time for as im going to a friends at 6.30ish then to a party.

Well, passed the 3k mark now (finally!) quite glad since now I've passed that 10 minute mark it is so much easier to run. Any one else planning on doing the Spring 5k in Blackpool in two weeks? Should be fun! Trying to decide on resting or a couple of km tonight hmm...

Is it me or is running on the treadmill seriously so much easier? I'm not being rude, but I see fat people tell me they can run 10K on a treadmill whereas outdoors I have to really push myself [mainly mentally :teehee:] to be able to run that - and I've been running for years. Yet on a treadmill, I can go on for ever! I just stick to REAL running - better work out and its much better to improve your stamina.

Agreed, about a year ago when I joined the gym I was able to run for 20 minutes as a warm up at quite a fast pace without stopping on the treadmill, this was on my first day at the gym. Not at the gym at the moment, and recently started running again, and for my first attempt I couldn't run more then 12 minutes on normal ground.

Awesome. I just started my season too. I'm hoping to do 1hr on the treadmill tommorow, so get in about 10K minimum.

I could run 2 miles on the treadmill and couldn't run 2 minutes outside so I know exactly what you mean- but tbh, treadmills are supposed to cause you more injury so i don't use them anymore

Thing about treadmills is that if you bounce upwards when you run then the ground passes below you. Do the same outdoors and it's inefficient.

Did a 10k today (about 1 hour), felt good! New way to pass the time: plug in the iPod and stick on a movie Love my gyms treadmills!

Running on treadmills is a lot easier. When I first started running outside, I had to really push myself to finish my route (~4.5km in total) but on the treadmill I was fine. Treadmill is also flat (unless you add a gradient, obviously), whereas you have terrain to deal with outside.

If you're running a treadmill you should have around a 2% gradient to compensate for the ease.
