European PhD applications

Hey,
I want to apply to a PhD course in Europe, but they all tend to ask for a Masters (or equivalent). I have done a 4 year BSc(Hons) course in Ireland. I was just wondering if that would be counted as an equivalent or would they mean a MSc is required. I only ask because the BSc in Europe seems to be 3 years and I've done four, and preferably I wouldn't like to do the masters if possible.

Does anyone have any experience in this? How was/is it? Any advice?

I have seen quite a few Unis (Germany) where they specified that a Master or equivalent has to be a course of minimum 4 years, so if that is the case, you would have a chance. I suspect, however, that it will depend on the subject you studied (sciences seem to make less of a fuss than humanities), how much of your degree was relevant to the study you want to pursue and of course on the Uni. Best will be to just ask the relevant departments.
