One of the reasons why I am applying for postgrad study at oxbridge is:
1.
Im interested in that particular field of study
2.
I want a degree from a world-class uni, its reputation, easier for me to climb up the organisation etc. Should i mention this at all?
I've no experience of applying as a graduate, but I wouldn't. It makes it seem like you're more interested in the end than the means. And everyone will be interested in their field. That's sort of a given.
can you focus upon what YOU think you can contribute to the university life (through research, sports etc.) and why oxford/cambridge is a suitable choice for you

offer them something new, a fresh perspective
Erm... no. They honestly couldn't care less about how you might "contribute to the university life", especially if it's through sports. They'll expect you to talk about your research interests and why the course is a suitable choice for you. No more than that.
I wouldn't mention anything listed in 2. Just your reasons for wanting to study the course you've applied for and any research interests as hobnob has mentioned.
I wouldn't list anything in #2 either. I was told once in an e-mail by one of the history professors that this is detrimental, and you should have your statement demonstrate that that isn't the reason for why you are applying (at all).
